Key Features
- Masterbuilt - There is something indescribably special about a guitar that’s built by one person. The neck is specifically built for that specific body and the pickups wound with that guitar in mind.
- Oval 60s C - The perfect middle ground between a modern slim C-shaped neck and a more vintage style shape. It perfectly hugs your hand without feeling clumpy.
- NOS - One of the most popular finish options in the Fender Custom Shop. A New Old Stock guitar looks exactly how it would have looked the day it left the factory however many years ago. It’s as close to having a time machine as we can offer!
Austin MacNutt
From local guitar repair guy to student then teacher, followed by boutique builder and now finally Fender Masterbuilder, Austin MacNutt has pretty much ticked every possible box a guitar luthier can tick. He grew up in a musical family and had the opportunity early on to begin experimenting with guitar maintenance as part of his own journey for the best-playing and sounding guitar. Reputation grew, and he soon became the go-to guy in his local Canadian town. He eventually found himself studying and honing his craft at the renowned Guitar Craft Academy in Hollywood, where he impressed so much that he was immediately asked to return as a teacher. During this time, he met Ron Thorn, who quickly snapped Austin up as a builder at his own boutique guitar company. After 11 years of working with Ron and gaining a highly respected reputation, Austin was asked to join the Fender ranks as a Masterbuilder. He has a passion and drive for electric guitars and building and has a unique mindset of crafting guitars with their journey and purpose in mind.
Roasted Ash
The already perfect combination of an Ash body, Maple neck and Rosewood fingerboard but made even better! Roasting the Ash body in effect, ages and seasons the wood to absolute perfection. All moisture, sugars and sap are roasted away, leaving you with a piece of timber which feels like it's been seasoned for 100 years. Perfectly resonant and often more lightweight. Wonderfully complemented by its Maple neck and Rosewood fingerboard, this Jazzmaster jangles and is resonant and lively with increased sustain and overtone.
Hand-wound Jazzmaster Pickups
These hand-wound flat pole piece Custom Shop Jazzmaster pickups are faithful reproductions of the famed single-coil pickups that can be found on the most desirable vintage Fender Jazzmasters of the ‘50s and ‘60s. Made using flush-mount Alnico V polepiece magnets and enamel-coated wire these pickups capture the unmistakable full spectrum tone of a vintage Jazzmaster. They have a musical snarl and bite in combination with a well-rounded powerful low end and overall warmth that results in a full-bodied, well-balanced and dynamic tone that can easily suit all playing styles.
