Roland Electronic Drum Kits: The Complete GUide

When it comes to electronic drum kits, Roland is widely considered one of the top names in the game. Their reputation for quality, reliability, and forward-thinking design has been built through years of innovation with their V-Drums lineup. Whether you're just starting out or you're a seasoned pro looking for a top-tier setup, Roland has a kit to match your level, style, and playing needs.

Roland’s V-Drums allow you to play as silent as it gets with drums, while also letting you pick any sort of sound from acoustic drums to electronic drums, and into a range of percussion instruments, all recorded in pro studios and brough to life by advanced V-Drums tech. These are great kits for practicing, travelling light or accessing a broad range of sounds in a live gigging setting.

The Roland TD-02K builds on the original TD-01K’s beginner-friendly design with some thoughtful upgrades for today’s new drummers. It keeps things compact and easy to use but offers improved pad sensitivity and a more advanced TD-02 drum module with expanded sounds and Bluetooth connectivity (via optional adapter). Whether you’re learning at home or playing along to your favourite tracks, the TD-02K delivers a smooth, responsive feel in a setup that’s quiet, durable, and ready to grow with your skills.

Speaking of skills, a selection of integrated tutorials, a metronome and a handy recording function are all designed to help improve your chops. You can even jam along with a full backing band if you want.

Key features

The Roland TD-02KV is an upgraded version of the TD-02K, offering enhanced features for drummers seeking a more authentic playing experience. While both kits share the same TD-02 sound module, the TD-02KV distinguishes itself with a mesh-head PDX-8 snare pad, providing a more natural feel and dynamic response compared to the rubber PD-4 pads found on the TD-02K. Additionally, the TD-02KV is equipped with the MDS-LITE four-post rack, allowing for a wider and more customizable pad arrangement, whereas the TD-02K utilizes the three-post MDS-MINI rack, which is more compact and suitable for younger players. These upgrades make the TD-02KV a more versatile choice for drummers looking to develop their skills on a kit that closely emulates the feel of an acoustic drum set.

Key features

Upgraded snare drum: Major upgrade over TD-02K’s rubber pad (PD-4), offers better stick response, dynamic range, and a more realistic feel closer to acoustic snares.

Bigger and Better frame: Four-post design = wider and more stable than TD-02K’s 3-post MDS-MINI.

Authentic V-Drums Sound: 16 ready-to-play kits, with coaching modes available for practise too

Super Quiet: Both models of the TD-02 use low-noise, beater-less kick pedals, good for apartments and shared spaces

Plug and Play: USB audio/MIDI connectivity

Jam Along: AUX in for playing along with music

Best for:

Players after a more realistic drum feel

An authentic frame and setup

A more versatile choice as you develop

At the heart of the kit is the TD-07 module loaded with 25 preset kits and a wide array of tweakable drum sounds, inspired by Roland’s higher-end models. Shape your tone with onboard EQ, ambience, and compression tools or take things further by importing your own samples via USB. Add to that Bluetooth connectivity for wireless jamming and practice, and you've got a small but mighty setup that punches well above its weight.

Compact, home-friendly setup: KD‑2 kick pad mounts directly to the rack with damping to reduce noise and vibration. The compact CY‑5 crash, ride, and hi-hat cymbals (with choke support and foot pedal control) and five-post rack make it ideal for small spaces

Beginners or intermediates willing to spend a little more on practice kit

An expanded sound module to explore your favourite drum tones
