Product Description
The Dirt transmitter, one of EQD's earliest circuits, debuted in 2008. Fuzz Face-inspired and built around rare low-gain silicon transistors, it blends germanium warmth with silicon's gritty top-end.
Controls
- Fuzz: Clockwise for heavier tones, counterclockwise for lighter tones.
- Tone: Clockwise for a brighter, more cutting tone, counterclockwise to roll off top end for more mellow tones.
- Bias: This is the heart of the Dirt Transmitter, where all of its voices can be found. It affects the voltage to the transistors which will create more gated Velcro fuzz tones counterclockwise and thicker, natural fuzz tones clockwise. It is “properly biased” at 5 o’clock.
- Level: Clockwise for more, counterclockwise for less.
Flexi-Switch Technology
This device features Flexi-Switch Technology! This relay-based, true bypass switching style allows you to simultaneously use momentary and latching style switching.
- For standard latching operation: tap the footswitch once to activate the effect and then tap again to bypass.
- For momentary operation: hold the footswitch down for as long as you’d like to use the effect. Once you release the switch the effect will be bypassed.
Since the switching is relay-based, it requires power to pass signal.
The Story of The Rancho De La Luna Dirt Transmitter
In early 2023, Jamie Stillman was invited by legendary guitarist and producer Dave Catching to record at Rancho De La Luna for an album celebrating the studio's 30th anniversary. Dave Catching is a founding member of Earthlings? and touring member of Eagles of Death Metal and Queens of the Stone Age - and also a longtime supporter of EarthQuaker Devices. Jamie eagerly joined the session, using the Dirt Transmitter on many tracks to great response from the crew.
Follow the session, plans emerged to reissue the Dirt Transmitter in conjunction with the album. Dave suggested Ohio-based artist Mike Egan for special Rancho-themed artwork which is an ideal match as Mike lives near EQD's headquarters. The collaboration came together naturally.
Specifications
- Power: This device takes a standard 9 volt DC power supply with a 2.1mm negative center barrel. EarthQuaker Devices always recommend pedal-specific, transformer-isolated wall-wart power supplies or multiple isolated-output supplies. Pedals will make extra noise if there is ripple or unclean power. Switching-type power supplies, daisy chains and non-pedal specific power supplies do not filter dirty power as well and let through unwanted noise. DO NOT RUN AT HIGHER VOLTAGES!
- Dimensions: 4.75 x 2.50 x 2.25 in. (121 x 64 x 57 mm) with knobs
- Current Draw: 3 mA
- Input Impedance: 500 kΩ
- Output Impedance: 100 Ω
