Spruce Top Electric Guitars

A poplar top ties every other aspect of a hollow body style guitar together. Because of their unique construction, hollow bodies require extra strength across the top of the body to keep them functional and durable. Poplar is rarely used in the same way as a flamed maple are burl top.

While the latter are more for show, a poplar top is the obvious functional choice. It is a simple looking wood, but still looks great with a transparent finish.

Brands such as Duesenberg, D'Angelico, Reverend and Epiphone regularly put poplar to good use.
