Ebony Fretboard Electric Guitars
Ebony Fretboard Electric Guitars
Ebony is one of the three most popular woods used to build fretboards, and for good reason. Although shades differ depending on the cut, ebony is the darkest of natural fingerboard materials and is almost black in colour. As you know, black goes with pretty much any colour.
Not only do ebony fretboards look great, but it has a tight grain and feels undoubtedly luxurious to play. Like rosewood, it requires some maintenance to keep looking fresh, but it’s definitely worth it.
Those of you out there concerned with tonewoods will find ebony possesses tight, cutting qualities similar to maple. It works well for guitar used in metal music which require a controlled attacking tone. Guitars made by ESP, Jackson, Ibanez and Chapman are regularly equipped with ebony fingerboards.
