Fender's Alternate Reality range aims to offer something a little different, as the name suggests. Warped reflections of the classics, mind-bending hybrids and plenty of outside-the-box ideas. The Sixty Six seems to be a bit of all three, with elements of Strat, Tele and Jazz bass combined with vintage hardware and a versatile selection of Alnico pickups. Outside the box indeed!
Strat, Tele & Jazz bass hybrid
The first thing you may notice about the Sixty Six is the body shape; it's a downsized Jazz bass, complete with pickguard and metal panel over the controls. It sounds crazy on paper but it looks like something between a Strat and a Fender offset - a pretty cool result. Then there's the Strat-style neck, headstock and bridge, which helps make things seem a little more familiar.
Finally there's the dual Tele-style Alnico pickups in the middle and neck positions, accompanied by a Player Series Alnico 2 Humbucker. This combination makes the Sixty Six quite unlike anything Fender have released before, in terms of looks, sound and feel.
Vintange meets versatile
The use of vintage hardware, the Jazz bass body and the classic large Strat headstock gives the Sixty Six a retro aesthetic. But don't let that deceive you; a Modern C profile, 9.5" radius and 22 fret range arms this model with all the functionality of a modern Fender instrument. Add the aforementioned pickups to the mix and you've got a broader tonal palette than you might expect!

- One Player Series humbucking pickup (bridge); two Player Series single-coil Tele pickups (middle & neck)
