Product Description

Here's what Audio Kitchen says about 'The Big Trees':

The Big Trees (TBTs) is an all valve, Class A amp which doubles as an incredibly versatile preamp, perfectly at home live and in the studio.

The 2.5W amp, built around ECC82 and ECC83 pre-amp and single EL84 output valves, generates harmonic-rich tone, sculpted by its Baxandall-based EQ, and ‘EL84 headroom control’. The Line output (incorporating a valve line driver stage) is either post power- amp stage, or discreet all-valve clean stage for empyreal DI tone.

We hand build TBTs at our workshop in West London with all the care and attention Audio Kitchen have become renowned for. Envisaged as a recording amp which could be taken on tour, TBTs has proven itself a creative inspiration in the studio. Its ever-expanding list of tasks includes re-amping/ guitar front end into a DAW/ clean gain/ DI/ line driver/ hardware insert on all manner of sources from synths to drums, Wurlitzer to vocals, and even as a twin attack over entire mixes.

The Big Trees is something we are thoroughly proud to put the Audio Kitchen name to, and we are delighted to see that it has already won the hearts of acclaimed producers, engineers and guitarists around the planet.

I wasnt sure what to expect with this amp but holy cow was I blown away with the big trees. While Ii could simplify it and say its the perfect bedroom amp (which it is) it does so much more than that. Perfect for recording, awesome as an overdrive (although quite large). But as an amp for home use the tone is simply amazing. Clarity, note definition and awesome levels of gain. I have a matchless Laurel canyon and it gets close to that level of punch and clarity. The stepped dirt is so clever in allowing you to get the edge of breakup/ overdriving tones at any volume. Swap the Ax7 out with an At7 for a little more clean headroom. It might not be for everyone, but this is an amp/ pedal i will never ever part with. A true classic !

Excellent bass DI. The distortion is pretty hairy, perfect for alt rock guitar. Works well as an all-purpose tool for the project studio.

Amazing little box, fantastic hand wired, British made tube amplifier and preamp. If there is such thing as the perfect tube amplifier for home use, for me this is it. I have this paired with a Victory 2x12 Cab, fantastic clean and pushed clean tones, even totally dry, add your favorite flavor of delay and or reverb and it is heavenly; there is no effects loop so everything in the front, just like it used to be. Amazing unique look, almost an art fixture in my living room, and yes it is expensive, but for me it is worth every penny - it makes me want to play, which means I actually practice. If you have the ability, buy one - you will not be disappointed.

Amazing device! I use it primarily as a dirt box into my other amps, but as a standalone amplifier it excels and has its own distinctive tone. Clarity remains even when the dirt and gain are dimed, and it’s pretty much impossible to get bad tones out of it. Agreeably it’s not the cheapest thing out there, but then again it is a hand-wired, point to point Class A amplifier and the quality is evident the second you plug it in. If you have the necessary funds, my advice is go for it!
