Dreadnought Acoustic Guitars

Pioneered by Martin in the early 20th Century, it’s among the most recognisable guitar styles of all time. If you think of an acoustic, chances are you’re imagining a dreadnought. Their symmetrical body shape and design is understated, but the sound is where these instruments excel. Thanks to the size and shape of the body cavity and types of bracing used, dreadnoughts deliver a louder sound than many of their counterparts. Expect plenty of rich bass tones and a warm midrange, perfect for all-things-strummed!

Dreadnoughts have been favoured by countless players over the years. Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Kurt Cobain; the list goes on and on. Its popularity among influential musicians is a testament to the success of the dreadnought design!

Over the years, a number of guitar manufacturers have developed their own versions of the dreadnought. The Gibson Hummingbird is just as famous for it’s stunning sunburst finish and patterned scratchplate as it is for its resonant sound. As mentioned earlier, the Martin D-28 is built on the formula that started it all, with its instantly recognisable golden spruce top. We’re proud to stock dreadnoughts from many of the industry’s most popular brands, including Yamaha, Sigma, Epiphone, Taylor and Fender, among others.
