Product Description
First unleashed back in 1958, the Explorer was way ahead of its time — so much so that hardly anyone knew what to make of it. Fast forward a couple of decades, though, and guitarists finally woke up to just how cool it really was. By the ’70s, it had become a favourite among rockers for its futuristic shape and enormous sound… and then the ’80s happened. Boom. The Explorer became a full‑blown icon!
The new Explorer ‘80s EMG takes its cues from the legendary 1984 model — the same era that delivered some of rock and metal’s most recognisable tones. Players like The Edge, Billy Gibbons and of course James Hetfield helped cement the Explorer’s place in guitar history, and this model is a loving tribute to that loud, rebellious decade of riffs, leather jackets and questionable hair decisions.
Classic ’80s attitude, modern performance
The Explorer ‘80s EMG sports a super‑comfortable Mahogany neck carved into a ‘60s SlimTaper profile — fast, smooth and perfect for everything from chunky rhythm work to face‑melting solos. On top you’ve got a Rosewood fingerboard loaded with 22 medium jumbo frets and understated pearloid dot inlays.
Up at the headstock you’ll find mini die‑cast tuners and a Graph Tech nut for rock‑solid tuning stability. Down the other end, an Epiphone LockTone Tune-O-Matic bridge and Stop Bar tailpiece keep everything locked in and ready for big bends, aggressive picking and unapologetically hard playing.
EMGs: The ’80s sound, bottled
Of course, it wouldn’t be an ’80s Explorer without EMGs. You get an EMG 60 in the neck for thick, singing cleans and saturated sustain, plus an EMG 81 in the bridge — the pickup that defined an entire generation of metal tones. These active 'buckers deliver the tight, fat, unmistakable sound that made the Explorer a go‑to weapon for so many players at the time.
Each pickup gets its own volume control, with a shared master tone — all topped off with knurled metal knobs for that no‑nonsense industrial vibe. And just like the original ’84 model, there’s no pickguard for a sleeker, more menacing look.
Ready to rock the world!
If you want a guitar that screams ’80s attitude, oozes stage presence and delivers the aggressive punch of active EMGs, this ‘80s-inspired Explorer is an absolute beast. It even comes with a premium gig bag, so you’re ready to hit the road the moment it arrives.
Features
- ‘60s SlimTaper neck profile: A slick, comfortable carve that feels fast under the fingers, perfect for players who want to rip solos without fighting the guitar. It’s slim enough for speed but still has enough substance to keep chords feeling solid and controlled.
- 22 medium jumbo frets: These frets make bending an absolute breeze and give you loads of confidence when navigating the upper register. Whether you’re chugging power chords or flying into big ’80s lead lines, they offer a smooth, modern playing feel.
- EMG 81 & 60 active pickups: A classic ’80s metal pairing — tight, aggressive and ready to cut straight through a mix. The 81 delivers razor‑sharp attack and crushing saturation, while the 60 brings warmth and sustain for soaring cleans and creamy leads.
- LockTone hardware: The LockTone bridge and tailpiece keep everything rock‑solid, boosting sustain and preventing accidental slips when you’re digging in. It’s a no‑nonsense setup built for stability, reliability and big on‑stage energy.
- Included premium gig bag: Perfect for players on the move, this gig bag keeps your Explorer safe and sound between rehearsals, gigs or late‑night jam sessions.
