Flamed Maple Top Electric Guitars
Flamed Maple Top Electric Guitars
Flamed maple was the first top wood ever used on an electric guitar. It can all be traced back to the iconic Gibson Les Paul. Thereafter, almost every major guitar brand has offered a flamed maple top on their guitars.
The effect is created by cutting maple to shape, forming it if required through mold-warping. It is then applied with a clear or lacquer coat for protection. The result is striking. While every top looks different, flamed maple can be recognised by its relatively straight stripes angled across the body.
Companies known for using flamed maple tops include Gibson, Gretsch, Duesenberg, Epiphone, Chapman and PRS.
