Product Description

Fairfield Curcuits make great sounding, simply designed pedals and the Randys Revenge is a stunning Ring Modulator. At its finest, in a considerably small package, powered by your typical 9V power supply, all analogue, hand stamped, pure sine wave oscillator, low-pass filtered with a touch of class and apparently musical. These are the requirements of warp speed space travel; a regular occurrence when dealing with Randy's hardware.

The lower oscillator frequencies create rich trem/vibe effects, excruciatingly slow or chopped up rhythmic flavours. As the frequency goes up, thick bells, tuned intervals, low-fidelity synth-like effects are only the beginning. Experimenting with the low-pass filter cutoff frequency and the dry/wet mix will yield tones as strange or subtle as desired.

Featuring expanded control voltage (CV) capabilities that allow for interactions beyond the simple stacking of effects, Randy can be used to control and be controlled by other CV capable devices. The stereo CV is switch-programmable for use with an expression pedal or as a 2-channel CV port. Both the oscillator and low-pass filter frequency are voltage-controllable. The internal oscillator is also available as an output, turning Randy into a stand-alone voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO).

NOTES ON POWERING

Randy’s Revenge was designed to operate using your typical centre negative, regulated 9-9.6 VDC power supply. The pedal is protected against reversed polarity and overvoltage conditions. Always check your power supply for proper voltage and polarity before connecting. There is no battery connection inside the pedal.

Absolutely fantastic pedal. So many different ways of using this thing. You can get amp like tremolo or more extreme sequencer like sounds when playing arpeggios. The hi/ lo and sq/ si toggle switches give instant access to various types of sound and the freq knob is great for fine tuning the ring mod to get some subterranean low octaves/ harmonies or atonal robotic noises. The blend knob helps tame extreme sounds if you need to. The jfet in the preamp creates a lovely valve like buffer to the sound. Love its utilitarian look. Sounds great with a fuzz before it and klon after. Phase 90 after also sounds amazing with it. Really happy with the pedal, really inspirational for experimentation.

The Randy’s Revenge is the first ring modulator I have ever tried. I pulled the trigger with some trepidation, as I wasn’t sure I would get on with it. I’m very glad I did tho... what a fantastic device! I wish I’d bought one sooner! This is a marvellous tool and a great springboard for creativity. The controls are brilliantly designed and simple to use, making it easy to find great sounds. The mix control allows you to blend your unaffected signal into the ring mod circuit. This is so, so useful, as it allows full-on ring mod madness, or more subtle effects with just a hint of ring mod, plus everything in between. I dig the look too... the choice of control knobs look v cool against the unpainted and hand-stamped chassis. Plus the giant frequency control in the centre make it look so purposeful and aesthetically balanced. Out of all my 30 or so pedals, the RR is definitely one of my favourites. It is a lot of fun & I am absolutely delighted with it.
