Product Description
The Sterling by Music Man Short Scale RAYSS4 StingRay Bass in Purple Sparkle takes everything players love about the classic StingRay and distils it into a compact, ultra-playable 30 inch package. Lightweight, comfortable and loaded with a powerful neodymium humbucker and flexible passive electronics, it delivers that big, bold StingRay punch in a bass that feels effortless under the fingers. Finished in a dazzling Purple Sparkle for 2026, it is as eye-catching on stage as it is inspiring to play.
Whether you are a guitarist moving to bass, a player with smaller hands, or simply after a more relaxed, slinky feel without sacrificing tone, the Short Scale RAYSS4 gives you serious sound and performance in a streamlined, gig-ready format. From tight, articulate fingerstyle lines to fat, driven rock tones, it has the range to cover rehearsals, studio sessions and live shows with ease.
Compact 30 Inch Scale Comfort
The 30 inch short scale length makes the RAYSS4 noticeably easier to play than a traditional long-scale bass. The frets sit closer together, stretches are reduced and string tension feels softer, which is ideal for fast runs, complex lines or long sets. It is a great choice for younger players, those with smaller hands, or anyone who simply prefers a more relaxed, forgiving feel without losing low-end authority.
Powerful Neodymium StingRay Voice
At the heart of the RAYSS4 is a Sterling by Music Man designed neodymium humbucker that delivers the signature StingRay sound: punchy, present and full of character. Neodymium magnets provide high output and clear definition, so every note cuts through the mix while still sounding thick and musical. From clean, percussive funk to gritty rock growl, the pickup responds dynamically to your touch and playing style.
Versatile Passive Electronics with Boost
The passive electronics keep things simple and reliable while still offering a wide tonal palette. A push/push volume control engages a powerful boost when you need extra output or bite, perfect for choruses, solos or heavier sections. The 3 way rotary selector lets you choose between parallel, true single coil and series modes, giving you everything from classic StingRay snap to tighter, more focused or thicker, higher output sounds at the turn of a knob.
Stage Ready Feel and Style
A nyatoh body keeps the bass comfortable and well balanced, while the roasted maple neck and rosewood fingerboard provide a smooth, stable playing surface with a familiar 9.5 inch radius and 22 medium frets. The open gear tuners and Sterling by Music Man designed bridge offer solid tuning stability and dependable performance. Finished in striking Purple Sparkle, the RAYSS4 looks every bit as bold as it sounds, making it a standout choice for players who want their bass to be seen as well as heard.
Features
- 30 Inch Short Scale Neck - The shorter 30 inch scale length reduces string tension and brings the frets closer together, making the bass easier to play and more comfortable for smaller hands or fast, intricate lines while still retaining a solid low end.
- Neodymium Humbucker Pickup - The Sterling by Music Man designed neodymium humbucker delivers a powerful, punchy StingRay tone with excellent clarity and definition, helping your lines cut through the mix without losing warmth or body.
- Passive Circuit with Push/Push Boost and 3 Way Selector - A simple passive layout with a push/push volume boost and 3 way rotary selector (parallel, true single coil and series) gives you a wide range of usable tones, from bright and snappy to thick and aggressive, without complex controls.
- Roasted Maple Neck and Rosewood Fingerboard - The roasted maple neck offers stability and a smooth feel, while the rosewood fingerboard and 9.5 inch radius provide a comfortable playing surface for both traditional and modern techniques.
