EMG Jim Root Deamonum Pickup Set with Long Shaft in White

The EMG Jim Root Daemonum Pickup Set with Long Shaft in White is the Slipknot riff machine’s own take on the classic EMG 81/60 combo, supercharged with EMG’s Retro Active technology. Voiced to deliver everything Jim loves about his original setup, this signature set adds extra versatility, dynamic feel and clarity, while still hitting with the tight, saturated aggression you need for modern metal rhythm and cutting leads.

Developed over several years and refined through multiple prototypes, the Daemonum set pairs a ceramic stud neck pickup with a steel pole, ceramic magnet bridge unit, each with its own custom Retro Active preamp. The result is a brutally articulate, high output voice that stays controlled under extreme gain, yet cleans up and responds more like a passive pickup when you roll back the volume. Finished in white with long shaft pots and supplied with EMG’s solderless wiring system, this set is ready to drop into compatible guitars and get you straight into Jim Root territory.

Jim Root’s Refined EMG Voice

Jim Root has relied on the EMG 81/60 pairing on stages and in studios around the world. With the Daemonum set he worked closely with EMG to capture that familiar punch, bite and sustain, then enhance it with the feel and flexibility of the Retro Active platform. If you are chasing tight, palm-muted chugs, searing leads and focused cleans that sit perfectly in a dense mix, this set has been dialled in by one of metal’s most recognisable guitar voices to do exactly that.

Retro Active Power with Passive-Like Feel

At the heart of the Daemonum set are custom Retro Active preamps, one for each pickup, exclusive to this signature model. These preamps give you the low noise, consistency and headroom of an active system, but with a more open, organic response under the fingers. You get the attack and authority to handle extreme gain, while still being able to work your volume and picking dynamics for expressive clean and edge-of-breakup tones.

Stud Pole Design for Precision and Clarity

Unlike traditional open coil humbuckers, both pickups use stud poles for a focused, precise magnetic field. The neck pickup’s ceramic studs deliver a crisp, percussive top end that keeps chords and fast runs clear, even with heavy distortion. The bridge pickup combines black steel poles with a ceramic magnet, echoing the character of the classic EMG 81 but with extra nuance and articulation, so every note in complex riffs stays defined.

Solderless Installation and Long Shaft Controls

The Daemonum set includes EMG’s complete solderless install system, making it straightforward to fit into compatible guitars without any soldering. Long shaft 25K volume and tone controls are supplied, ideal for instruments that require deeper mounting through the top. With all cables, buss boards and hardware in the box, you have everything you need to get up and running quickly. Be sure to check EMG’s pickup measurements and your guitar’s existing layout before purchasing to confirm compatibility.

• Jim Root Signature Voicing - Developed over years of collaboration, this set captures Jim Root’s preferred evolution of the classic EMG 81/60 sound, giving you the tight low end, aggressive midrange and singing sustain that define his rhythm and lead tones.
