Product Description

Some of the very best guitar tones were created going "direct-in" to a studio console. It had been almost impossible to recreate that exact tone for live playing - until the arrival of the JHS Pedals Colour Box. Now in its second iteration, the all-encompassing preamp stompbox receives some much welcomed updates, including phantom power, an expanded EQ and a high headroom switch.

The Colour Box V2 produces a clean, studio-grade sound in the style of a Neve console, of which you might find at Abbey Road Studios and other famous recording locations. You can rely on the Colour Box to be the foundation to your tone, whether you're running it in your amp effects loop or in a smaller power amp-to-PA setup.

A new set of EQ controls expand the Colour Box's already impressive tone shaping abilities even further. The treble, mid and bass shift dials adjust specific frequency ranges, letting you put more emphasis on finer details in the spectrum. Meanwhile, the Hi/Lo gain switch allows for a broader selection of gain stages. You can crank the volume with more headroom on a Lo setting, or switch over to Hi where it distorts more readily for crunchy and fuzzy goodness.

Great for Instruments and Vocals

JHS Pedals found musicians weren't just using the Colour Box with electric guitars - it produces incredible tone for acoustics, bass, synths, drums and even vocals. That's why the Colour Box has a 100% clean signal to accommodate all instruments, as well as an XLR slot and 48v phantom power for microphones. The pad switch adjusts the level for XLR to help tame high output mics.

Using it to track instruments into my DAW. Sounds great and easy to navigate. Adds a different feel to instruments tracked with plug-ins, but they also sound good too. I’m old school and like trying to get tones as used by the Beatles, so this can be very helpful, in trying to achieve them! You’ve got to keep trying! Great product. Also, I’ve already knocked it onto the floor and still working great!

For me it's just what I needed. If you are buying this you would have done your research and used your own ears. It's really a personal choice on any pedal you buy. Sorry, I don't copy marketing spill, I tend to do research before I buy. Using ears. In other words don't take my word for it.

I didn't know what to expect from the Colour Box V2 at first, so it took me a while to get to grips with it. Since then it's become an excellent tone-shaping tool which sits at the end of my signal chain, with the parametric Mid control proving especially useful. Getting the Step and Pre-Vol just right gives a nice, subtle grit and compression. The blown-out fuzz sounds are a lot of fun as well. It's also starting to prove very useful as a DI box.
