The Friedman VX-30 212 Combo distils six decades of classic British EL84 chime into a hand-built, all-valve amplifier that feels as good as it sounds. Part of Dave Friedman’s Vintage-Series, the VX-30 takes inspiration from a rare 1963 copper-panel amp with Top Boost, then refines it for modern players. Handcrafted in Los Angeles with premium components and custom transformers, it captures the unmistakable voice of early 60s British combos while adding far greater flexibility, reliability and control over volume and feel.

Two Channels You Can Blend

The VX-30 features independent Brilliant and Normal channels that can be used on their own or blended together, with both circuits kept in phase. The Brilliant channel offers sparkling clarity and harmonic richness with Treble, Bass and Volume controls, while the Normal channel provides a three-position Voice switch for TREBLE, NORMAL and BASS voicings. Blending the two lets you create textures that go far beyond the original vintage designs, from glassy cleans with added warmth to complex, three-dimensional overdrive.

Celestion Alnico Blue Power

Loaded with a pair of genuine Celestion Alnico Blue speakers, the VX-30 delivers the bell-like chime, smooth upper mids and musical compression that defined the original British sound. Pure Feel and Control

A genuine 5AR4 tube rectifier, cathode-biased output stage and zero negative feedback are all chosen to maximise touch response and dynamic range. Dig in and the amp grinds and blooms; back off and it cleans up without needing a channel switch. The Cut control lets you fine-tune the power amp’s top end, while the Master Volume Control allows you to push the output stage into its sweet spot at more manageable levels, preserving the amp’s character at a wide range of volumes.
