The Gibson Custom Shop Collectors Choice #3 “The Babe” Les Paul is a meticulous recreation of one of the most revered original Bursts, delivering vintage character with exceptional accuracy. This second-hand example captures the spirit of the rare 1960 “transitional” Les Paul Standard #0-0137 (famously owned by Joe Bonamassa) which blends late-’59 features with early-1960 production details.

One of the few original Standards fitted with a factory Bigsby vibrato, “The Babe” is both unusual and highly collectible. Gibson Custom has faithfully reproduced every nuance, from the distinctive Cherry Tea Burst finish (rich in retained aniline red dye) to the hand-selected Maple top and lightweight Mahogany body. The chunky late-’59-style neck profile and Custombucker pickups, built to original PAF specifications, deliver exceptional warmth, clarity and vintage bite. Subtle aging and period-correct appointments complete an instrument that feels as authentic as it looks.

This example is in excellent condition overall and has been well cared for throughout its life. The finish remains vibrant with only light, honest signs of use consistent with careful ownership. The frets show very little wear, with plenty of life remaining for continued playability and performance. The hardware and electronics are fully functional, and the guitar retains its original feel, resonance and setup integrity. Overall, it presents as a clean, highly desirable example of this limited Collector’s Choice release, equally suited to both serious players and collectors.

As number 144 of just 300 produced, this example offers added exclusivity for collectors and players alike. A rare opportunity to own a historically-inspired and limited-production Les Paul, “The Babe” stands out as both a cool collector’s piece and a world-class player’s guitar.
