Product Description
Named after the legendary Ted McCarty — one of the true architects of the electric guitar world — the PRS McCarty is where vintage soul meets modern PRS wizardry. It’s Paul Reed Smith and the team tipping their hats to the golden age of guitar making, while packing in everything they’ve learned after decades of obsessive refinement.
Vintage vibe, modern muscle
This beauty comes loaded with vintage-inspired appointments: a bound 22-fret ‘Pattern’ neck that feels instantly “just right,” plus a slightly thicker body that dishes out extra warmth, sustain and tonal goodness. Add in the classic PRS stoptail bridge with brass inserts and Phase III tuners (also rocking brass shafts), and you’ve got resonance for days — the sort of thing that makes you hit one chord and grin!
Next‑gen pickups with old-school soul
Under the hood? A set of McCarty III pickups — the latest evolution of PRS’s deep-dive into the world of vintage humbuckers. Paul and his engineering team didn’t just copy old pickups; they dissected, analysed and tuned them with modern tech to capture every ounce of clarity and character. The result: warm, vocal, expressive humbuckers that go from smoky jazz to classic rock bite with total ease. With a push/pull tone control and 3‑way toggle, the McCarty serves up a full palette of tones ready for the studio or stage.
The McCarty story
Back in the late ’80s, Ted McCarty became a mentor — and eventually a friend — to Paul Reed Smith, helping refine PRS’s design and building techniques. Fast-forward to 1994, and the very first McCarty model was born, blending Ted’s hard-earned wisdom with Paul’s own craftsmanship. Today’s PRS McCarty continues that legacy.
