Product Description

The Normal Devices Decay Cascade is what happens when a reverb pedal and a dying amplifier collide in the best possible way. Built around cascading analogue gain stages and a highly tweakable reverb engine, it delivers everything from subtly degraded ambience to gloriously broken walls of noise. If you've ever loved the sound of running reverb into distortion, the Decay Cascade takes that idea and pushes it much, much further.

Beautifully broken reverb

At its heart, the Decay Cascade combines a versatile reverb section with a parallel drive circuit, letting you blend clean, reverberant and distorted signals however you like. Choose from dark, drifting hall sounds, huge spring-style ambience or primitive bucket-brigade echoes, then extend the decay from short reflections to haunting, drone-like textures. Whether you're after lo-fi character or vast atmospheric soundscapes, there's plenty to explore.

Layer chaos to taste

The real magic happens when you start stacking the pedal's different layers together. The drive control ranges from gentle grit to saturated distortion, while the Sag control starves the circuit of voltage for sputtery, gated fuzz tones and unstable textures. Blend the clean and driven signals to create everything from subtly worn-out echoes to warped, collapsing soundscapes that feel like they're falling apart in real time.

Vintage character, questionable health

After the reverb and drive stages, your signal hits a preamp inspired by 1960s test amplifiers. This section can act as a raw gain boost, add dusty gated artefacts or plunge your tone into murky, low-passed destruction. From the sound of an ageing tape machine to an amp seemingly on its last legs, the Decay Cascade specialises in tones that are rough around the edges in all the right ways.

Sounds you can expect

The Normal Devices Decay Cascade excels at weird, characterful textures that sit somewhere between ambience, overdrive and sonic malfunction. Think:

  • Gritty lo-fi echoes and degraded repeats.
  • Woozy, dying-battery overdrive tones.
  • Layered clean and distorted reverb textures.
  • Dusty, vintage-inspired crackle and ambience.
  • Eerie "something's not quite right" sounds.
  • Crushing walls of harsh ambient noise.
Features
  • Unique reverb + analogue gain architecture: Combine lush ambient textures with cascading analogue amplification stages for sounds that range from subtly degraded ambience to outright sonic carnage.
  • Three distinctive reverb modes: Switch between dark, pitch-drifting hall reverb, expansive spring-style ambience and primitive bucket-brigade echo tones. Each mode has its own personality, giving you plenty of inspiration straight out of the box.
  • Drive, Sag & Mix controls: Blend clean, reverberant and distorted signals to create everything from gritty lo-fi echoes to collapsing walls of fuzz-soaked ambience. The Sag control adds sputtery, dying-battery character for extra doses of controlled chaos.
  • Vintage-inspired preamp with gated artefacts: A 1960s test-equipment-inspired preamp injects raw gain, dusty gated textures and optional low-pass filtering into your signal.
