Product Description
The Meinl Sonic Energy Chau Tam Tam 28 inch is a handcrafted Chinese tam tam made from a special bronze alloy, offering a vast range of tones from deep, meditative lows to powerful, room-filling crashes. Whether you are working in sound therapy, orchestral settings, film scoring or experimental music, this 70 cm instrument delivers a complex, evolving sound that responds beautifully to every nuance of your playing.
Each Chau Tam Tam is created using traditional gong-making methods that have been refined over centuries, resulting in an instrument with real character and presence. Supplied with a matching beater and cover, it is ready to become the resonant centrepiece of your sonic toolkit, blending effortlessly with other gongs and instruments or standing alone as a dramatic, immersive sound source.
Traditional Handcrafted Design
The Meinl Sonic Energy Chau Tam Tam is meticulously handcrafted in China, the spiritual home of gong making. Using time-honoured techniques, skilled artisans shape and tune each tam tam to produce a rich, musical voice with a natural, organic feel. This traditional approach gives every instrument its own subtle personality, making it an inspiring choice for players who value authenticity and craftsmanship.
Wide Dynamic and Tonal Range
From a soft, sustained low hum to a dark, brooding roar and explosive, shimmering crashes, this 28 inch tam tam offers a huge spread of tonal colours. Light strokes reveal gentle, meditative textures, while more forceful playing unlocks intense, dramatic swells. This flexibility makes it ideal for everything from relaxation and sound baths to dynamic live performance and studio work.
Special Bronze Alloy for Complex Overtones
Crafted from a special bronze alloy, the Chau Tam Tam produces a complex web of overtones that evolve and bloom as the sound develops. The result is a deep, three-dimensional tone that fills the space and draws the listener in. This richness of sound is particularly effective in therapeutic contexts, ambient music and cinematic sound design, where nuance and depth are essential.
Ready to Play with Matching Beater and Cover
Each Meinl Sonic Energy Chau Tam Tam 28 inch comes with a beater that is specifically matched to its size, helping you access the full tonal potential of the instrument straight away. The included cover helps protect the surface when not in use, so your tam tam stays in top condition between sessions, rehearsals and performances.
