Product Description
The Lollar Novel sB Pickup Set delivers the thicker, more authoritative voice of a vintage humbucker while keeping the clarity, definition and touch response players love from high-end single coils. Designed to drop straight into a standard humbucker route, this blade-style single coil set in Matte Black / Chrome gives you a smooth, vocal midrange, strong sustain and a refined top end that sits perfectly in a mix.
Using one side of Lollar’s acclaimed dB humbucker, the Novel sB coils are voiced for a blooming note attack and a focused lower midrange that feels reminiscent of a sweeter, more controlled P-90 or a particularly musical vintage humbucker. They stay articulate under gain, respond beautifully to picking dynamics and volume knob changes, and retain string-to-string balance thanks to the continuous blade design.
Whether you are upgrading a workhorse guitar or fine-tuning a studio tool, the Novel sB set offers a powerful yet nuanced tone that covers everything from expressive cleans to classic rock crunch. The humbucker-sized footprint keeps installation straightforward, while the distinctive Matte Black / Chrome aesthetic adds a modern, boutique look to your instrument.
Blade-Style Single Coil in a Humbucker Route
The Novel sB takes one coil from Lollar’s dB humbucker and houses it in a standard humbucker-sized cover, making it a true drop-in replacement for most humbucker routes. You get single coil articulation and feel without any routing or pickguard changes, ideal for players who want to experiment with new tones while keeping their guitar intact.
Thicker Voice with Clear, Defined Top End
Voiced to be fuller and meatier than a typical single coil, the Novel sB still retains impressive clarity and note separation. Chords stay open and defined, while single notes have a smooth, singing quality that works brilliantly for melodic lines and solos. It is a great choice if you find standard single coils too thin but do not want to lose detail in the high end.
Vocal Lower Midrange and Blooming Sustain
One of the standout characteristics of the Novel sB is its vocal, fundamental-focused lower midrange. Notes bloom after the initial attack, giving you a dynamic, expressive feel under the fingers that recalls a refined vintage humbucker or P-90. This makes the set particularly satisfying for blues, rock and expressive lead work where touch sensitivity really matters.
Matched Neck and Bridge Set
Supplied as a dedicated neck and bridge pair, the Novel sB set is carefully balanced for output and tonal spread across all positions. The lower-wound neck (approx. 5.6k) stays clear and open, while the hotter bridge (approx. 7.2k) adds punch and presence without becoming harsh. This gives you a cohesive, versatile set that covers a wide range of styles with simple three-way switching.
Features
- Humbucker-Sized Blade Single Coils - Each Novel sB uses a continuous blade in a humbucker-sized housing, ensuring even string response and easy drop-in installation. You benefit from single coil articulation and feel without modifying your guitar’s body or pickguard.
- Thick, Smooth Tonality with Clear Definition - The voicing delivers a richer, thicker sound than many single coils while preserving clarity and note separation. This balance makes the pickups ideal for players who want more body and warmth without sacrificing detail.
- Expressive Lower Mids and Enhanced Sustain - A vocal lower midrange and strong sustain give your notes a blooming, singing quality. This helps leads stand out in a mix and makes dynamic playing more rewarding, from gentle cleans to driven tones.
- Calibrated Neck and Bridge Outputs - With average DC resistances of 5.6k in the neck and 7.2k in the bridge, the set is carefully matched for level and tone across all switch positions. You get consistent performance and a natural transition when moving between pickups.
