The Gibson Melody Maker Special is a tribute to half a century of hot-rodding and modding. The original Gibson Melody Maker debuted in 1959 as a student instrument that was affordable and no-frills. However they also provided the perfect platform for hot-rodding and modding, which saw many of these student instruments find their way into the hands of pros with upgraded and modded pickups and electronics. The Melody Maker Special is a tribute to those hot-rods.

The slab body is solid mahogany with a satin nitro finish that lets the tone breathe and depending on the level of use will age beautifully giving you a guitar that's as unique as you are. The Melody Maker Special is fitted with p-90 pickups with genuine alnico V magnets for a similar output volume to a PAF but with all the mid range bark, bite and cut that's only possible with single-coil pickups.

If you're looking for something that's going to stand out a bit from the usual Les Paul crowd but still rock up there with the best of them then the Gibson Melody Maker Special has your name on it. And all for a price thats just as friendly now as it was 1959!

Finish in Satin Blue Stain for a dark but refined look

Here's what Gibson say about the Melody Maker Special

Gibson introduced its beloved Melody Maker "student" lineup in 1959, and it has been a favorite of players seeking great tone at a great value ever since. In the spirit of the countless Melody Makers that have been modded, hotrodded and upgraded over the years by players aiming to emulate the performance of more up-market guitars, Gibson USA introduces the Melody Maker Special. This great guitar offers all the no-nonsense, slab-bodied styling of the original Melody Maker, but is updated with the legendary P-90 pickups as found on the Les Paul Special, as well as a full-sized Les Paul-style headstock. With these features, and a choice of four gorgeous nitrocellulose satin finishes—Cherry, Yellow, Ebony, and Blue Stain—the Melody Maker Special gives you outstanding value in a genuine, USA-made Gibson electric guitar.

Just like the first Melody Makers to roll off the line in Kalamazoo 62 years ago, the Melody Maker Special is made from solid mahogany. An archetypal tonewood used in countless classic Gibson electric guitars, mahogany has a sonic depth and richness that can't be beat, yet always remains clear and articulate. The guitar's neck is made from quarter-sawn mahogany, carved to a comfortably rounded profile that measures .835" at the 1st fret and .930" at the 12th. Its 22-fret fingerboard is made from baked maple, a heat-treated hardwood that provides outstanding durability along with excellent tonal clarity, and is topped by a PLEK-cut Corian nut for superb sustain and excellent intonation.

The tonal heart of the Melody Maker Special lies in its pair of P-90 pickups, beloved single-coil units that have been favored by rock 'n' rollers, blues players and garage rockers for more than 60 years. Made with genuine Alnico V magnets, these pickups provide as much power as traditional PAF-style humbuckers, but with a characteristic bite and midrange punch that really help them cut through the mix. They are wired through the no-nonsense control section of single master volume and tone control, with three-way toggle switch. Hardware includes a rock-solid wraparound bridge—a component known for its ability to enhance any guitar's resonance and sustain—and a set of quality, vintage-style white-button tuners.

Every Melody Maker Special comes protected in a padded Gibson gigbag, with an owner's manual and coverage from Gibson's Limited Lifetime Warranty, as well as Gibson's acclaimed 24/7/365 Customer Service. Check it out today at your authorized Gibson USA dealer.
