Product Description

Fender have done it again! The new Vintera II series has built upon the success of the first Vintera launch, giving you accurate recreations of timeless, classic electric guitars from the golden eras of Fender’s history, with a sprinkle of contemporary comforts. The new Vintera II’s bring you more accurate and detailed vintage specifications, with the use of Rosewood fretboards on selected models, era specific pickups, and the addition of new guitars to the range.

The use of more traditional, vintage-style components in the Vintera II series makes them one of the most era specific guitars Fender have made. This puts the ‘50s, ‘60s, and ‘70s eras in your hands for you to wield a stylish, vintage sounding, and an authentic feeling electric guitar! The Vintera II series pays tribute to the innovatively designed instruments that defined decades of music.

‘70s Fender Stratocaster Maple Fretboard

The ‘70s Stratocaster provides a different flavour compared to its predecessors. Not only are there some aesthetic differences, such as the larger headstock, but a slight change in the neck profile offering a different feel in playability. The Vintera II ‘70s Stratocaster features a “U” shape neck is slightly chunkier at the shoulders for a bigger, thicker feel that is remarkably comfortable and suitable for many different hand styles. The Maple fretboard and Alder body combination offers a crisp and vibrant tone for punchy midranges and full-bodied low ends.

The vintage-style ‘70s Strat pickups provide a hot, crisp, and articulate sound that Fender guitars are famous for. Combined with a vintage-style synchronized tremolo, you can adjust this 6-point tremolo to you preferred position so that you can experiment with expressive vibrato. The Vintera II ‘70s Stratocaster delivers a different flavour from the other Strats in the series. It offers you a choice between Maple or Rosewood fingerboards, and a slightly thicker neck for surprising comfortability that suits a variety of different hand shapes and playing styles.

Bought this guitar because I owned one like it (a USA one) back in 1981. Unlike that guitar which was terrible this one is built properly and became quite playable after a few minor tweaks. I had to file the nut slightly and play around with the neck tilt and truss rod to get the correct action and buy some shorter grub screws for the saddles to prevent my hand from being injured. The only reservation I have (and this is something I don't remember from the 70's original) is that the frets are fitted before the neck is lacquered and then the tops of the frets are filed afterwards. The lacquer is about 1 mm thick and adheres to the sides of all the frets and the nut. As this flakes away by playing I fear it my chip off parts of the finish on the fret board too. This is a standard Fender thing apparently so there's not a lot you can do apart from buy one with a rosewood fingerboard.
