Product Description

The Groove Synthesis 3rd Wave 24M is a powerful desktop synthesiser that combines decades of synthesis innovation with a versatile, professional sound engine. Designed for producers, composers, sound designers and keyboardists with their own preferred controllers, it delivers the flagship capabilities of the 3rd Wave series in a compact format without an integrated keyboard.

With 24 voices and four independent parts, the 3rd Wave 24M can create intricate layers, keyboard splits and complete multi-part arrangements within a single programme. Its three digital oscillators per voice support classic PPG-style wavetables, modern wavetable synthesis, analogue modelled waveforms, linear FM and sampling. These methods can be combined to produce everything from vintage digital textures to complex, evolving soundscapes.

At the heart of its sound are a Dave Rossum-designed SSI2140 analogue low-pass filter and a versatile state variable filter. Four LFOs, extensive envelopes and a comprehensive modulation matrix provide detailed control over movement and timbre, while two digital effects per part add depth and character.

The desktop design integrates easily into studio and live setups, with dedicated controls, a five-inch display and four encoders for hands-on programming. MPE and polyphonic aftertouch support enable expressive control from compatible external controllers. With eight physical audio outputs, MIDI connectivity, USB MIDI and a built-in Wavemaker for custom wavetables, the 3rd Wave 24M is a flexible centrepiece for ambitious synthesis and sound design.

Features
  • 24 Voice Polyphony and Four Independent Parts - Build layered sounds, complex sequences and complete arrangements using four independent parts, each with its own sound, effects and stereo output pair.
  • Five Synthesis Methods and Analogue Filters - Combine PPG-style and modern wavetables, analogue modelled waveforms, linear FM and sampling with two analogue filters for extensive tonal flexibility.
  • Desktop Design with Professional Connectivity - Integrate your preferred MIDI controller or DAW using USB and DIN MIDI, expressive controller support and eight physical audio outputs for flexible routing.

Four Independent Parts and Hybrid Synthesis:

The 3rd Wave 24M provides 24 voices of polyphony and four independent parts, giving you the flexibility to create elaborate sounds and arrangements within a single instrument. Each part has its own sound, sequencing capabilities, effects and dedicated stereo output pair. This makes it easy to layer evolving pads, combine basses with leads or separate individual parts for mixing and processing.

Three high-resolution digital oscillators per voice support five synthesis methods. Explore classic PPG-style wavetables, modern high-resolution tables, analogue modelled waveforms, three-operator linear FM and sampling. Combining these approaches within a single patch opens up a broad range of possibilities, from vintage digital character to intricate metallic textures and organic evolving timbres.

Unison, chord mode and oscillator hard sync provide further creative options. With its extensive sound engine, the 3rd Wave 24M suits both traditional synthesiser programming and experimental sound design.

Analogue Filters and Deep Modulation:

The 3rd Wave 24M pairs its versatile digital oscillators with two distinctive analogue filters. The Dave Rossum-designed SSI2140 resonant low-pass filter features a 24 dB per octave slope and variable saturation, allowing you to add warmth, weight and harmonic character. The additional state variable filter offers low pass, high pass and notch modes, with an optional band pass mode for further tonal control.

Beyond the filters, the modulation system provides 16 assignable modulation slots and 12 additional fixed source paths per part. Four LFOs, four ADSR plus delay envelopes and six stage oscillator wave envelopes offer extensive control over pitch, timbre, dynamics and evolving movement.

Two digital effects per part add further processing options, including delay, chorus, phaser, distortion and several types of reverb. With modulation assignments and parameter changes available for sequencing, you can create sounds that develop and transform over time.

Desktop Control and Studio Integration:

The 3rd Wave 24M is designed for musicians who already have a preferred keyboard, controller or DAW-based workflow. Its desktop format removes the integrated keyboard while retaining the flagship 3rd Wave sound engine. A dedicated control panel, five-inch display and four encoders make programming accessible without relying entirely on software or menu navigation.

Connect external MIDI controllers through the DIN MIDI or USB connections, with support for MPE and polyphonic aftertouch for expressive performance. The four stereo output pairs provide eight physical audio outputs, allowing you to route individual parts to separate mixer channels, recording inputs or external effects.

The built-in Wavemaker creates custom wavetables from external audio, while Serum wavetable import expands your sound design options. Pattern-based sequencing records notes and parameter automation, with up to 24 patterns per programme and sequences extending to 32 measures. This makes the 24M a capable instrument for studio production, live electronic music and detailed sound design.
