Product Description
The Groove Synthesis 3rd Wave 24K is a powerful 24-voice synthesiser designed for professional keyboardists, composers and sound designers. Combining classic wavetable synthesis with modern digital oscillators and analogue filters, it delivers an expansive palette of sounds for studio production, live performance and cinematic composition.
With four independent parts, the 3rd Wave 24K can operate as four complete synthesisers within a single instrument. Create layered textures, split bass and lead sounds across the keyboard, or run multiple sequences simultaneously. Its three digital oscillators per voice support classic PPG-style wavetables, modern wavetable synthesis, analogue modelled waveforms, linear FM and sampling.
At the heart of its sound are a Dave Rossum-designed SSI2140 analogue low-pass filter and a versatile state variable filter. Together, they offer warmth, saturation and detailed tonal shaping. A comprehensive modulation system, four envelopes, four LFOs and two effects per part provide extensive sound design possibilities.
The 61-key Fatar keyboard features velocity and aftertouch, alongside support for MPE and polyphonic aftertouch. Dedicated controls make hands-on editing intuitive, while the pattern-based sequencer records notes and parameter automation. With its built-in Wavemaker, extensive connectivity and four independent stereo outputs, the 3rd Wave 24K is a versatile instrument for musicians seeking expressive performance and deep synthesis.
Features
- Four Independent Synthesiser Parts - Create complex layers, keyboard splits and simultaneous sequences, with individual sounds, effects, sequencing and stereo outputs for each part.
- Hybrid Digital and Analogue Sound Engine - Combine wavetable synthesis, sampling, linear FM and analogue modelled waveforms with two distinctive analogue filters for detailed sound shaping.
- Expressive Performance and Hands-On Control - Play the premium 61-key Fatar keyboard with velocity and aftertouch, explore dedicated controls and use MPE or polyphonic aftertouch-compatible controllers.
Four Independent Parts and Powerful Synthesis:
The 3rd Wave 24K provides 24 voices across four independent parts, allowing you to build sophisticated sounds without relying on multiple instruments. Each part has its own sound, sequence, effects and dedicated stereo output, making it suitable for complex studio arrangements and expressive live performance.
Three digital oscillators per voice offer several synthesis methods, including classic PPG-style wavetables, high-resolution wavetables, analogue modelled waveforms, three-operator linear FM and sampling. These methods can be combined within a single patch, opening up possibilities for evolving pads, metallic textures, punchy basses and detailed leads.
Unison and chord modes add further performance options, while oscillator hard sync provides additional harmonic character. The result is a flexible sound engine that bridges vintage digital synthesis and contemporary sound design.
Analogue Filters and Advanced Modulation:
At the core of the 3rd Wave 24K's analogue signal path is a Dave Rossum-designed SSI2140 resonant low-pass filter with a 24 dB per octave slope and adjustable saturation. An additional state variable filter offers low-pass, high-pass, high-pass, and notch operation, with an optional band-pass mode. Using both filters together allows you to shape everything from smooth, rounded tones to harmonically rich, aggressive textures.
For deeper sound design, each part includes a comprehensive modulation system with 16 assignable modulation slots and 12 additional fixed source paths. Four LFOs, four ADSR-style envelopes and dedicated wave envelopes provide extensive control over movement, dynamics and timbre. Modulation assignments can be saved with your sounds, making intricate patches easy to recall and refine.
Creative Sequencing and Expressive Performance:
The pattern-based sequencer records both notes and parameter changes, helping you develop evolving arrangements directly from the instrument. Each programme supports 24 patterns, with sequences extending up to 32 measures. Adjustable quantisation and swing make it easy to explore different rhythmic feels, while song mode lets you arrange patterns into complete compositions.
For live playing, 77 knobs and 39 buttons provide direct access to the instrument's controls, keeping sound shaping immediate and intuitive. The 61-key semi-weighted Fatar keyboard responds to velocity and aftertouch, while MPE and polyphonic aftertouch support enables expressive control from compatible controllers.
The built-in Wavemaker creates custom wavetables from external audio, and the instrument can also import Serum wavetables. Four stereo outputs, MIDI connections, USB MIDI and pedal inputs make it easy to integrate into a professional studio or performance setup.
