Product Description

From 1966-1979, Gibson humbucker™ coil forms were manufactured with a “T” on the top of the pickup, earning them the nickname “T-Top.” This “T” marking assisted the pickup assemblers with confirming the correct orientation of the bobbins during production. Gibson T-Tops are known for their brighter, tighter, and more aggressive tone compared to the original late 50s Patent Applied For pickups. Artists such as Jimmy Page, Chuck Berry, B.B. King, Pete Townshend, Angus Young, Peter Frampton, Nancy Wilson, Randy Rhoads, Mick Ronson, Tommi Iommi, and many more are known to have used original Gibson T-Tops, helping to cement the T-Top as an iconic Gibson pickup.

The new Gibson Pickup Shop 1968 T-Top Reissue humbucker is faithful to the Gibson T-Tops produced from 1966 to 1979. Using Alnico 5 magnets and period-correct winding specifications, the Pickup Shop has recreated not only the look of the original T-Tops but also the coveted tone. As vintage Gibson T Tops have become collectable, the 1968 T-Top Reissue will satisfy the needs of the guitarist seeking the original look and sound of a vintage T-Top without the vintage price.

Features
  • Classic vintage T-Top appearance - The 1968 T-Top Reissue uses the same T-Top bobbins as the vintage T-Tops, for an authentic vintage appearance.
  • Iconic T-Top tone - Wired with 2-conductor wiring, using period-correct winding specifications, and left unpotted, the Gibson Pickup Shop has not only duplicated the appearance of vintage T-Top pickups, but also the materials and construction details, resulting in a pickup that nails the sound of the vintage originals.
  • Alnico 5 magnets - The 1968 T-Top Reissue pickups use Alnico 5 magnets, just like the vintage originals, for the bright, tight, and aggressive tone that these pickups are famous for.
  • Your choice of bobbin colours - The 1968 T-Top Reissue is available with Double Black or Double Vintage White bobbins, giving players a choice in the pickup’s visual appearance. Regardless of which version you select, you’ll get the same vintage T-Top tone.
