Friedman VX-30 Single Channel 30-Watt All-Tube Head In Ivory

The Friedman VX-30H-IV is a 30-watt, all-valve head that bottles six decades of classic British EL84 chime into a compact, handcrafted package. Inspired by a rare 1963 copper-panel amp with Top Boost, it delivers everything from crystalline cleans and edge-of-breakup sparkle to harmonically rich overdrive, all with the touch sensitivity and dynamic feel that players crave. Finished in elegant ivory, this single-channel head offers two blendable voices, authentic tube rectification and a responsive master volume, giving you vintage character with modern flexibility.

Part of Dave Friedman’s Vintage-Series, the VX-30H-IV is not a clone of a single circuit but a refined evolution of those legendary early 60s designs. Hand-built in Los Angeles with premium components and custom transformers, it is voiced for players who want that unmistakable British chime and compression, but with greater control, reliability and tonal range. Whether you live on the edge of breakup, ride your guitar’s volume for cleans, or push the front end with a treble booster, the VX-30H-IV responds like a living, breathing instrument.

Authentic British Chime, Refined

At the heart of the VX-30H-IV is a quad of EL84 power valves, cathode-biased with zero negative feedback for a lively, immediate response. The result is the bell-like top end, complex midrange and musical compression that defined countless classic records, but with Friedman’s meticulous tuning for clarity and balance. From jangly chords to singing lead lines, the amp stays articulate and expressive, rewarding every nuance of your playing.

Two Voices, Infinite Blend

The VX-30H-IV offers two independent voices that can be used on their own or blended together in phase. The Brilliant channel provides the sparkling, Top Boost-style chime with dedicated Treble, Bass and Volume controls, while the Normal channel offers a three-position Voice switch for TREBLE, NORMAL and BASS voicings. By jumping and blending the channels, you can move from pure vintage flavours to entirely new textures, tailoring the balance of shimmer, warmth and low-end body to suit any guitar or style.

Pure Valve Feel and Touch

A genuine 5AR4 tube rectifier, cathode biasing and the absence of negative feedback all serve one purpose: feel. The VX-30H-IV sags and breathes under your fingers, cleaning up beautifully when you roll back your guitar’s volume and roaring into rich overdrive when you dig in. The Master Volume Control lets you push the EL84s into their sweet spot at more manageable levels, while the Cut control fine-tunes the power amp’s high frequencies so you can sit perfectly in any mix.

Vintage Spirit, Modern Reliability

While the VX-30H-IV is steeped in vintage inspiration, its construction is thoroughly modern and robust. Handcrafted in Los Angeles with carefully selected components and custom-made transformers, it is designed to deliver that classic British magic night after night. Modern protection and conservative ratings help keep the amp running reliably, while the tube rectifier’s natural warm-up removes the need for a standby switch, staying true to the original feel of those early 60s designs.
