Product Description

Created with Japan’s bass tone wizard Kentaro Nakao, the EarthQuaker Devices Scrolls Bass Odyssey is a seriously clever bit of kit. It’s a modern tone-shaping powerhouse capable of shaping the organic input signal of any bass to match the sonic profile of virtually any bass/amp combination you can imagine. Vintage Cali bass through a flip-top with a big ol’ 15" speaker? No problem. Active bass smashing a solid-state full stack? Easy. Whatever sound is in your head, Scrolls is built to chase it down.

Drive that keeps the low-end intact

On the right-hand side, Scrolls packs a juicy, tube-like drive section. The Blend control lets you dial in exactly how much clean bass stays in the mix, while the Bandwidth knob decides where the grit happens — lows to the left, highs to the right. Used together, they make sure your bass stays punchy, wide and full, even when you’re piling on the dirt.

Studio-grade EQ with a secret weapon

Over on the left, you’ll find a powerful active EQ section with Bass, Mid and Treble controls. But the real magic comes from the Variable Frequency control, allowing you to cut or boost anywhere from thunderous lows around 20 Hz all the way up to sparkly highs at 10 kHz. Perfect for clearing out muddy frequencies or adding bite where you need it. Within the EQ section, you’ll find three push button switches that serve as potent assets for one-click tone sculpting.

Smart signal routing for real-world rigs

The EQD Scrolls Bass Odyssey is smartly laid out under the hood, too. The Drive feeds into the EQ, with an Effects Loop sitting neatly in between — ideal for keeping modulation effects after your dirt while still finishing everything off with EQ. There’s also a buffered Parallel Out, so you can send a clean signal elsewhere without compromising your main tone.

Amp, desk or stage (you’re sorted!)

Whether you’re heading into a bass amp via the 1/4" output or running ampless straight to front of house or your interface using the balanced XLR, Scrolls has you covered. The XLR output includes subtle analogue filtering to give you a more cabinet-like feel when going direct — perfect for silent stages, fly gigs or home recording without the faff.

Features
  • Tube‑like drive: A rich, amp‑inspired drive circuit with clever controls that allow you to add grit and punch while keeping your low-end big, bold and completely intact.
  • Comprehensive EQ control: A powerful, studio-grade EQ section that lets you sculpt your bass tone with precision, from tightening up the lows to adding clarity and character exactly where your sound needs it.
  • Flexible routing: Smartly designed signal routing with parallel out and effects loop, making Scrolls effortless to drop into virtually any pedalboard, amp or recording setup.
  • Made in the USA: Each and every Scrolls is all-analogue, true bypass, and built one-at-a-time by the skilled tone technicians at EarthQuaker Devices on the banks of the historic Ohio and Erie Canal, in the heart of Akron, Ohio.
