Product Description
The DiMarzio PAF Joe Neck Pickup is Joe Satriani’s refined take on the classic late 50s humbucker, blending the bite and clarity of a PAF Pro with the warmth and bloom of a vintage Gibson-style pickup. Voiced to deliver Joe’s signature “tubular” neck tone, it offers singing sustain, articulate lows and sweet, vocal mids that stay defined whether you are playing fluid legato lines or complex chords.
Using DiMarzio’s Virtual Vintage technology, the PAF Joe balances clear low frequencies with warm mids and highs, giving you a neck pickup that cuts through a mix without ever sounding harsh. It is equally at home in solid, semi-solid and hollow-body guitars, and works brilliantly in any position if you are chasing expressive, touch-sensitive tones with a modern edge. Finished here in a striking yellow with black pole pieces, it looks as bold as it sounds.
With a medium output and Alnico 5 magnet, the PAF Joe responds beautifully to your picking dynamics and volume control, going from smooth, rounded cleans to saturated lead tones with ease. It is a superb choice if you want a neck humbucker that stays tight and articulate under gain, yet still delivers the warmth and musicality associated with great vintage pickups.
Joe Satriani’s Signature Neck Voice
Developed specifically for Joe Satriani, the PAF Joe captures his preferred neck tone with a unique “tubular” character that feels fluid and vocal under the fingers. If you are chasing expressive lead sounds with plenty of sustain and clarity, this pickup gives you a direct route to that modern, singing neck voice.
Vintage Warmth with Modern Clarity
By combining elements of the PAF Pro with late 50s humbucker traits, the PAF Joe delivers warm mids and sweet highs without sacrificing note definition. Chords stay open and clear, while single notes have a rounded attack that never turns muddy, making it ideal for both rhythm and lead work.
Virtual Vintage Technology
DiMarzio’s Virtual Vintage design blends clear low frequencies with harmonically rich mids and highs, giving you a balanced, full-range response. This means tight, controlled bass that does not boom, plus upper frequencies that cut through without sounding brittle, so your tone remains articulate at any gain level.
Versatile Across Guitars and Positions
Recommended for all positions in solid, semi-solid and hollow-body electric guitars, the PAF Joe is far more than just a neck pickup for one signature model. Its moderate output and musical EQ let it pair well with a wide range of bridge pickups, making it a flexible choice for custom wiring setups and versatile instruments.
