Danelectro made a proper comeback in ‘98 with a cracking range of reissues, bringing their gloriously quirky, golden-era guitars back into the spotlight. Fast forward to today and they’ve gone one better — instead of just reliving the past, they’ve turned things up and doubled down on everything that made those originals so cool in the first place.
The Blackout ‘59 takes Dano’s best-selling shape and gives it a bold, sparkly makeover, complete with a black pickguard, matching side tape and a set of beefed-up Lipstick pickups!
Classic Lipstick pickups (with modern bite)
It wouldn’t be a Danelectro without those iconic Lipstick single-coils, and they’re still very much the star of the show. This upgraded NOS+ set keeps all the charm of the originals but adds a welcome bit of extra grunt. Expect brighter highs, punchier mids and a tighter low-end that gives you a richer, more balanced tone (without losing that unmistakable Dano chime). With dual concentric volume and tone controls alongside a 3-way selector, you’ve got loads of tonal flexibility right at your fingertips too.
Built for the stage and studio
Danelectro have kept the tuning setup reassuringly traditional, but with modern reliability baked in. A straight string pull runs from the 3-a-side vintage-style tuners, over an aluminium nut and into a fully adjustable die-cast wraparound bridge that’s neatly recessed into the body. The result? Solid tuning stability, spot-on intonation and a guitar that’s ready for anything.
Lovely playability
The Blackout ‘59 feels every bit as good as it looks. A comfy, easy-playing “C” neck profile and smooth 21-fret fingerboard make it a joy whether you’re noodling at home or flying through a full set. Plus, the semi-hollow construction keeps things light and manageable — even on those longer gigs.
