SS Electric Guitars

SS Electric Guitars

SS electric guitars have been around since the '50s. When Fender brought its popular Telecaster (originally called the Broadcaster) model to the market in 1950, it established the blueprint for most other electric guitars to follow. And that's why many brands use the old-school SS pickup configuration in the designs of their own instruments.

The SS layout is fairly utilitarian, which positions single-coil pickups in both the bridge and neck positions. Although SSS electric guitars are considered more versatile with their extra middle coils, the SS configuration is still practical. And with 3-way selector switches typically fitted on guitars with this setup, you can easily flick between their barking bridge single-coils to their smoother-sounding neck pickups on-the-fly; or combine the two for the best of both worlds!
