Poplar Body Electric Guitars

Poplar Body Electric Guitars

A variety of instrument brands use Poplar to construct the bodies of their electric guitars. Often compared to Alder from a sonic perspective, Poplar provides an even tone with excellent clarity in the upper mid-range. It also has a forgiving weight, meaning that guitars constructed from Poplar will have a light and ergonomic feel.

The likes of Squier, Jackson and Eastcoast use Poplar extensively in their solid-body models. However, Gibson also employs Poplar to construct the bodies of their semi-hollow ES-335 guitars. Poplar typically has a plain grain pattern, meaning that manufacturers will usually paint over the material or apply a veneer on top of it.
