Pau Ferro Fretboard Electric Guitars

Pau Ferro Fretboard Electric Guitars

A tonally versatile tonewood with gorgeous tight grain – Pau Ferro has become a popular sustainable choice for players worldwide.

Tonally, Pau Ferro sits between Rosewood and Ebony, offering a slightly brighter, snappier tone than Rosewood while retaining warmth and depth. Its smooth, tight grain means it doesn’t require a finish and is easy to maintain, feeling fast and easy to play.

Pau Ferro gained prominence as a popular fretboard material after changes to CITES regulations in 2017 prompted many manufacturers to seek sustainable alternatives to Rosewood. Although those restrictions were lifted in 2019, Pau Ferro remains widely used and appreciated for its tonal qualities and durability.

Our range of Pau Ferro fretboard electric guitars includes models from top brands like Fender, Schecter and Alvarez. Fender and Schecter offer a specific selection of premium electric guitars featuring this wood, gorgeously complementing their Maple or Mahogany necks. Alvarez uses Pau Ferro in a couple of their baritone electro-acoustic models.
