Origin Effects RevivalDRIVE Custom Overdrive Pedal

Written by

Sam Beattie

After many years of research, Origin Effects have poured all of their knowledge, passion and innovative ideas into their latest release: the stunning RevivalDRIVE & RevivalDRIVE Custom!

We've previously seen UK-based Origin Effects release some of the most popular and critically-acclaimed compressor pedals on the market, used by countless players from David Gilmour to Biffy clyro's Simon Neil - and everyone in between!

This is their first foray into the world of overdrive, and it looks typically spectacular! With an evidently comprehensive interface, rugged hand-finished enclosure and brand-new Origin circuitry, this looks set to leave a lasting impact on the overdrive and distortion category!

Origin Effects RevivalDRIVE - The Original Origin Originator

Two Amps Are Better Than One

The idea behind the RevivalDRIVE Custom didn't start with a pedal formula; Origin Effects instead started by looking at classic amplifiers. They know that it's difficult to beat the sound of an old-school non-master-volume amp - so that's where they started! Origin analysed their favourite classic amps and replicated every stage of the signal path to ensure that the sound was as authentic as possible.

The RevivalDRIVE Custom boasts two amp-mimicing circuits: a valve rectifier and silicon rectifier. These circuits have been meticulously recreated with entirely analogue electronics, delivering a huge palette of British and American tones ranging from sparkle to scream! Both of these circuits can also be combined to create entirely new sounds - you can truly make this pedal your own!

Ultimate Tonal Tweaking

Alongside the two stackable channels, you've got a number of features at your disposal that provide an unprecedented amount of tonal legroom.

A built-in mid-boost will ensure you cut straight through any mix, live or studio - whether it's a tonal preference or you've got a stadium-sized solo to unleash! You can also change the preamp voicing to a 'bright capacitor' setting, broadening your range adding a little extra sparkling clarity.

The Custom version of this pedal comes with additional front-panel controls that allow for even more in-depth tweaking. You essentially have total control over the entire frequency spectrum of your sound, and a secondary EQ section will allow you to match your sound up with any amp of your choosing; there really is no limit to what you can do!

Like The Real Thing

The circuitry has been lovingly recreated in the sonic image of its valve-amp ancestors, but that's not where the authenticity ends.

Origin Effects have implemented a synthesised mains power signal and a speaker-emulating reactive load. This means that this pedal will sing, soar and sag in the same way that your favourite valve combo will! This is guaranteed to be one of the most dynamic and responsive overdrive pedals on the market - it has to be heard to be believed!
