Maroon 5 axeman James Valentine is known for his eclectic mixture of funk/rock playing, and to accommodate his varied style he needed a guitar versatile enough to handle it.
That’s why he chose to work with industry giants Music Man. Together, they have created a guitar that perfectly combines great aesthetics, comfort and forward-thinking electronics, to give James the instrument that best meets his particular needs on the road and in the studio.
The Sterling model may be the more affordable version of his signature guitar, however it still packs a punch and boasts many of the same features of its more expensive counterpart.
The JV60 consists of a light Swamp Ash body, which provides a warm and full-bodied sound whilst not putting too much strain on your shoulders or back, making it a great instrument for live use. The beautiful wood grain is highlighted by the silky smooth Buttermilk finish, complemented by a classy Tortoiseshell-style pickguard.
An amazing feature of the JV60 is its roasted maple neck. Also featured on the more expensive US-made model, the JV60’s roasted neck guarantees better tuning stability, keeping it stable and rigid. The roasting process removes any moisture retained by the wood naturally, making it less likely to warp or develop any curvature from exposure to differing temperatures. In other words, this guitar will be incredibly reliable and hassle-free!
Versatile Electronics & Hardware
The James Valentine model features a host of premium features that even pros would adore. Locking tuners make string changes almost effortless, and the neck’s dual-action truss rod with body end wheel adjustment makes setup changes super easy. Although with a rock solid roasted maple neck, you won’t have to tinker with it too often!
The S/H pickup configuration gives you spanky T-style tones, similar to one of Valentines’ favourite vintage guitars. Despite having a single-coil fitted in the bridge position, which gives you amazing funk sounds, the pickup can still handle plenty of gain and delivers a bright upper mid-range crunch. The full neck humbucker gives you warm tones suited for lead playing or clean passages.
A 3-way selector switch lets you isolate the pickups or combine the two for the best of both worlds, but the 12dB boost circuit is the ace up this guitar's sleeve. Just push the volume control in, and you’ll get a pure clean boost to take your signal up a notch!
Here's what Sterling say about the JV60 James Valentine Signature Guitar:
