Combining a compact body, a unique 12-fret configuration, and a lush, warm voice, the Next Generation 512ce 12-Fret serves up musical appeal in spades. This Grand Concert boasts back and sides of solid mahogany, yielding a punchy, focused midrange character with a dry, woody quality. A top of Western Red cedar adds a warm attack with remarkable soft-touch sensitivity, producing notes that bloom with depth and sweetness. Inside, our scalloped V-Class bracing offers enhanced open-string resonance and sustain, while the long-tenon Action Control Neck dials up more warmth while making it easy to set your preferred string height in minutes. The 12-fret design beautifully complements the accommodating Grand Concert frame, reducing string tension for a slinky, relaxed feel. Appointments include white body binding with black/white/black trim, a single-ring green abalone rosette, a faux-tortoiseshell pickguard, Meridian inlays in Italian acrylic, and a full-body gloss finish.
12th Fret Neck Joint
Joining a guitar's neck to the body at the 12th fret has more of an impact on an acoustic guitar's tone than you may think. When a guitar features a 12th fret neck-to-body joint, the bridge has to be positioned much lower on the body than we would find on a ‘standard’ acoustic guitar. This new bridge position is actually considered by many as the ‘sweet spot’ for bridge placement, placing it right around the centre of the lower bout. This optimises vibration and tonal transfer and results in a richer and fuller sound with increased sustain, volume and dynamics. Up until the late 1920s/early ‘30s, guitars typically joined the body at the 12th fret. Manufacturers moved away from this design due to a rising desire among guitarists for easier access to the higher notes. The 12th-fret joint can also result in a more slinky feel overall, as well as a more comfortable playing experience due to the shorter neck.

A proprietary preamp tames the harshness of traditional piezos and incorporates soundhole-mounted controls: Volume, Tone and a versatile Mid-Contour knob.
