Remo, Emperor SMT Coated Kick Drum Drumhead, 22"

The Remo Emperor SMT Coated 22 inch kick drum head is a pre-muffled bass drum solution designed to deliver tight, punchy lows with controlled highs and mids. Combining a dual-ply construction with Remo’s Sub Muffl Technology, it gives you focused, powerful low end and extra attack without the need for external dampening, making it ideal for modern drum set applications.

Built with two plies of 7 mil and 5 mil coated film, the Emperor SMT Coated head offers a broad tuning range that works equally well for jazz-inspired articulation and contemporary, punch-driven styles. The integrated muffling ring subtly tames unwanted overtones and boom, so your kick sits perfectly in the mix whether you are on stage or in the studio.

If you are tired of wrestling with pillows, tapes and gels to get your bass drum under control, this head provides a clean, consistent solution straight out of the box. The coated surface adds warmth and definition to the beater attack, while the Sub Muffl design reinforces subsonic low frequencies for a deep, musical thump that still cuts through.

Whether you are upgrading a stock bass drum head or fine-tuning a professional kit, the Remo Emperor SMT Coated 22 inch kick drum head gives you dependable tone, easy tuning and a polished, mix-ready sound with minimal fuss.

Pre-Muffled Sub Muffl Design

The Emperor SMT Coated head features Remo’s Sub Muffl Technology, integrating a muffling system directly into the drumhead. This pre-muffled design controls excessive ring and boom while enhancing subsonic low frequencies, so you get a tight, punchy kick sound without having to stuff the drum with extra dampening.

Dual-Ply Durability and Control

With two plies of 7 mil and 5 mil film, this head balances durability with tonal control. The dual-ply construction withstands regular gigging and heavier playing styles, while naturally shortening sustain and tightening up the sound for a focused, controlled bass drum response.

Coated Finish for Warm Attack

The coated surface adds a touch of warmth and texture to the kick drum’s attack. This gives the beater strike more character and presence, helping your bass drum sit clearly in the mix without sounding harsh, and making it suitable for both subtle jazz playing and more assertive contemporary grooves.

Broad, Versatile Tuning Range

Designed with a wide tonal spectrum in mind, the Emperor SMT Coated head responds well across a broad range of tunings. From lower, thumping settings to higher, more articulate tensions, it remains musical and controlled, making it a versatile choice for jazz and modern drum set applications alike.
