Remo, Emperor SMT Coated Kick Drum Drumhead, 20"

The Remo Emperor SMT Coated 20 inch kick drum head is a pre-muffled bass drum solution that delivers tight, punchy lows with controlled highs and mids. Combining a dual-ply coated construction with Remo’s Sub Muffl Technology, it gives you focused, powerful low-end response and added attack, ideal for modern drum set applications where clarity and control are essential.

Using two plies of 7 mil and 5 mil film, the Emperor SMT Coated balances durability with musicality, offering a broad tuning range that suits both jazz-inspired tunings and contemporary, low-pitched kick sounds. The integrated muffling removes the need for extra pillows or rings inside the drum, helping you achieve a studio-ready sound straight out of the box.

Whether you are chasing a tight, articulate beater click for contemporary styles or a rounder, more open tone for jazz and fusion, this head responds consistently across a wide dynamic range. The coated surface adds warmth and definition, making it easier to sit your kick drum perfectly in the mix on stage or in the studio.

For drummers who want a controlled, professional kick drum sound without the hassle of external dampening, the Remo Emperor SMT Coated 20 inch bass drum head is a practical, musical upgrade that keeps your low end punchy, powerful and easy to manage.

Sub Muffl Technology Built In

The Emperor SMT Coated features Remo’s Sub Muffl Technology, a pre-muffled design that controls unwanted overtones and ring from within the head itself. This gives you a focused, punchy bass drum sound without having to stuff your shell with extra dampening, saving setup time and keeping your drum breathing naturally.

Dual Ply Durability and Control

With two plies of 7 mil and 5 mil film, this head offers a strong balance of durability and tonal control. The dual-ply construction helps tame excessive sustain while still allowing the drum to speak clearly, making it a reliable choice for regular gigging and rehearsal use.

Coated Finish for Warmth and Definition

The coated surface adds a touch of warmth and softens the top-end attack, giving your kick a more musical, rounded character. This helps the drum sit comfortably in a mix, providing definition without harshness, and works particularly well with microphones in live and studio environments.

Broad Tuning Range for Multiple Styles

Designed with a broad tonal spectrum in mind, the Emperor SMT Coated responds well across a wide range of tunings. From higher, more resonant tunings suited to jazz and lighter styles through to deeper, punchy contemporary settings, it adapts easily to different musical situations while maintaining control and low-end presence.

• Pre-Muffled Sub Muffl Design - Integrated Sub Muffl Technology provides built-in dampening that controls overtones and excess ring, giving you a tight, focused kick sound without additional internal muffling.
• Two-Ply 7 mil and 5 mil Construction - The combination of 7 mil and 5 mil plies delivers a blend of durability and tonal control, helping the head withstand regular playing while keeping the sound punchy and controlled.
• Coated Film for Added Warmth - The coated finish enhances warmth and midrange presence, smoothing the attack and helping the bass drum sit naturally in both live and recorded mixes.
• Versatile 20 Inch Size with Wide Tuning Range - Optimised for 20 inch bass drums, this head offers a broad tuning spectrum that suits jazz, fusion and contemporary styles, allowing you to dial in anything from open and resonant to deep and punchy.
