Mapex Saturn Evolution 22" Maple/Walnut Blend in Tuscan Red

The Mapex Saturn Evolution 22" Maple/Walnut Blend in Tuscan Red is a professional drum kit built for players who need rich, modern tone with rock-solid consistency. Hybrid maple and walnut shells deliver a powerful, full-bodied sound with a bright attack and deep low-end, while SONIClear bearing edges and the Halo mounting system keep tuning easy and resonance wide open. Finished in a bold Tuscan Red lacquer with chrome hardware, it is a serious performance kit that looks as good as it sounds on any stage or in the studio.

At the heart of the Saturn Evolution series is the carefully voiced maple and walnut shell blend. Maple provides clarity and projection, while walnut adds warmth and darkness, giving you a kit that can cut through a dense mix without ever sounding harsh. Each shell is tailored in thickness to its role in the kit, so the 22" bass drum hits with authority, the rack toms sing with focus, and the 16" floor tom delivers a fat, controlled rumble.

Mapex have equipped the Saturn Evolution with their latest shell-enhancing technologies to make tuning quicker and tone more reliable. SONIClear bearing edges help the heads sit perfectly on the shells, increasing contact and making it easier to find the sweet spot at any pitch. The Halo mounting system supports the toms without choking them, so you get maximum sustain and a more natural, open voice that responds beautifully to dynamics.

Practical details such as optimised air flow venting and SAS Static 90 degree floor tom legs ensure the kit feels responsive and stable under the sticks. Sonic Saver hoops add durability and a comfortable playing feel, while the Tuscan Red finish gives the kit a striking, high-end look under stage lights. Whether you are tracking in the studio or playing live night after night, the Saturn Evolution is designed to deliver consistent, musical results.

Maple/Walnut Hybrid Shells

The combination of maple and walnut in the Saturn Evolution shells creates a balanced, versatile sound that suits a wide range of styles. Maple adds articulation and projection, while walnut contributes warmth and low-mid body, so every drum feels full and musical without losing clarity.

SONIClear Bearing Edges

SONIClear bearing edges make tuning faster and more predictable by allowing the head to sit flatter on the shell. With 45 degree edges on the toms and a 65 degree edge on the bass drum, you get improved head-to-shell contact, better sustain and a wider usable tuning range.

Halo Mounting System

The Halo mounting system supports the toms without drilling into the shell, preserving resonance and allowing the drums to vibrate more freely. This results in a more open, natural tone and a smoother decay, ideal for both close-miked studio work and live performance.

Optimised Air Flow and Stable Floor Toms

Multiple air vents on each shell help the drums move air more efficiently, giving a punchier, more responsive feel under the stick. SAS Static 90 degree floor tom legs and Sonic Pedestal feet keep the floor tom stable while minimising contact with the floor, so you retain low-end power without unwanted choking.

• Maple/Walnut Hybrid Shells - The carefully balanced blend of maple and walnut delivers a warm, full-bodied tone with a bright attack and strong projection, making the kit equally at home in rock, pop, fusion and beyond.
• SONIClear Bearing Edges - Precision-cut SONIClear edges on all shells help heads seat more easily, simplifying tuning and providing a wider range of usable pitches with consistent sustain and clarity.
• Halo Tom Mounting System - The Halo mounting system supports the toms from the outside of the shell, maximising resonance and giving the drums a more open, expressive voice while maintaining secure positioning.
• Tuscan Red Finish with Sonic Saver Hoops - The bold Tuscan Red lacquer and chrome hardware create a striking stage presence, while Sonic Saver hoops offer a comfortable rim feel, added durability and focused, controlled overtones.
