From powerful strummed chords to delicate fingerpicked passages, the Hummingbird Standard delivers a broad, musical tonal palette that has made it a favourite with singer-songwriters, bandleaders and session players for over six decades. At the heart of the Hummingbird Standard is its classic square-shoulder body, built with a solid Sitka spruce top and solid mahogany back and sides. This tried-and-tested combination delivers a warm, full-bodied sound with plenty of depth and a clear, singing top end. The 24.75 inch scale length adds a slightly softer, more forgiving feel under the fingers, ideal for expressive vibrato, big first-position chords and long writing or recording sessions.
Handcrafted in Bozeman, Montana
Each Hummingbird Standard is built by Gibson’s skilled acoustic luthiers in Bozeman, Montana, using traditional construction methods. A compound dovetail neck joint secured with hot hide glue ensures a strong, resonant connection between neck and body, helping the guitar ring freely and sustain naturally. Multi-ply binding on the top and back, a gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish and the instantly recognisable Hummingbird pickguard complete a look that is as inspiring as the sound.
Comfortable Neck and Premium Playability
The mahogany neck is carved to a comfortable Round profile that feels familiar and supportive whether you play thumb-over chords or more classical thumb-behind technique. A bound rosewood fingerboard with 20 frets and mother-of-pearl parallelogram inlays offers a smooth playing surface and clear visual reference points. TUSQ nut, saddle and bridge pins work together with Grover Rotomatic tuners to provide reliable tuning stability and consistent performance.
Baggs HiFi DNA Electronics
The Gibson-exclusive Baggs HiFi DNA pickup system is designed to capture the Hummingbird’s natural acoustic character as accurately as possible. Two lightweight sensors mounted to the bridge plate, each with its own optimised preamp, deliver a full-range, detailed amplified sound that preserves the guitar’s inherent personality. Soundhole-mounted volume and tone controls let you shape your sound quickly and discreetly on stage, while the system maintains the guitar’s unplugged tone and offers excellent resistance to feedback.
