Fryette Aether Handwired Amplifier Combo

The Fryette Aether is a handwired, single channel valve amplifier that feels as much like an instrument as your guitar. Built around separate preamp and power amp modules and voiced through a custom Fane Alnico speaker, it delivers an astonishingly touch-sensitive response, from warm, articulate cleans to a harmonically rich wall of sustain that you can command from your guitar volume alone.

Conceived by Steven Fryette as a complete, integrated system, Aether is all about the relationship between player, guitar, amplifier and speaker. Active valve EQ lets you sculpt your sound around the natural character of your instrument, while the modular chassis design keeps noise and hum to a minimum and allows the power section to breathe and sing. This is not a clone of a vintage classic but a fresh, deeply musical take on what a premium valve amp can be.

The Aether cabinet houses the preamp, reverb and custom Fane/Fryette A60S Alnico speaker, with top-mounted controls and a distinctive maple/mahogany logo plate crafted by Koll Guitars. A separate Power Supply/Power Amp Module contains the transformers, rectifier and power valves, connecting to the cabinet via a dedicated multi-pin cable and speaker lead. The result is a beautifully balanced rig that is easy to transport and incredibly rewarding to play.

Every part of the circuit is point-to-point handwired using carefully selected, high-reliability components, with custom-wound transformers ensuring maximum fidelity and long-term stability. From the first note, Aether feels immediate, three-dimensional and inspiring, inviting you to explore new levels of nuance, dynamics and expression.

Single Channel, Infinite Expression

Aether is a single channel amplifier, but it behaves like several amps in one under your fingertips. Starting from a warm, balanced jazz-leaning clean, the preamp gradually blooms into thick harmonic sustain and overdrive as you dig in. Because the gain structure is so responsive, you can move from shimmering chords to singing lead simply by adjusting your picking and guitar volume, without relying on pedals or channel switching.

Active Valve EQ That Works With Your Guitar

Instead of a traditional passive tone stack, Aether uses active valve equalisation to enhance the natural voice of your guitar. This approach allows the amp to highlight the tonal nuances of different tonewoods and hardware, whether you are playing a hollow, semi-hollow or solid-body instrument. The result is a more intimate interplay between guitar and amplifier, where every adjustment on the EQ feels purposeful and musical.

Separate Preamp and Power Amp Modules

By housing the preamp and power amplifier in separate chassis, Fryette dramatically reduces hum, noise and unwanted vibration. Keeping the power valves away from the speaker minimises mechanical stress and helps extend valve life, while also reducing frequency cancellations that can rob your tone of sustain and clarity. The modular layout also makes the rig more comfortable to carry, with weight distributed intelligently between the cabinet and power module.

Custom Fane/Fryette A60S Alnico Speaker

Developed over nearly two years in collaboration with Fane Acoustics in the UK, the Fane/Fryette A60S Alnico speaker is voiced specifically for Aether. Its rich, expressive response captures the full tonal palette of the amplifier, from delicate cleans to saturated overdrive, with a smooth, musical top end and detailed midrange. The matching cream chassis and bell cover complete the visual aesthetic while delivering truly high-end sonic performance.

• Point-to-Point Handwired Construction - The entire amplifier is wired by hand to minimise lead lengths and unnecessary wiring, preserving signal integrity and dynamic response. High-quality components and meticulous layout contribute to exceptional reliability and a pure, immediate playing feel.
• Modular Preamp and Power Amp Design - With the preamp housed in the cabinet and the power section in a dedicated module, Aether keeps noise and hum to a minimum while protecting the power valves from excessive vibration. This design also improves transport convenience, as the weight is split between two manageable units.
• Active Tube Equalisation - The active valve EQ circuit allows precise, musical tone shaping that works with the natural voice of your guitar rather than fighting it. Whether you favour hollow-body cleans or solid-body drive, you can dial in a sound that feels uniquely connected to your instrument.
• Custom Fane/Fryette A60S Alnico Speaker - The purpose-designed A60S speaker delivers a wide, expressive tonal range tailored to the Aether circuit. Its rich harmonic detail, smooth compression and articulate response make it an ideal partner for players who rely on touch dynamics and guitar volume control to shape their sound.
