Fender Custom Shop Tomatillo Stratocaster Pickups Set of 3

Fender Custom Shop Tomatillo Stratocaster pickups are a vintage-voiced set of three single coils that capture the sparkle and chime of a classic Strat, but with a sweeter, softer edge. Slightly underwound and built around Alnico 2 magnets, they deliver clear, articulate cleans with a warm attack and rich midrange that feel instantly familiar under the fingers.

Sharing the same lineage as the acclaimed Ancho Poblano set, Tomatillo pickups are shellac potted for a more open, dynamic response, letting your playing nuances shine through while still keeping unwanted feedback at bay. If you want to upgrade a Strat with authentic Custom Shop tone that is touch sensitive, musical and inspiring at every volume, this set is designed to drop straight in and transform your sound.

Vintage Inspired, Underwound Clarity

Tomatillo Stratocaster pickups are slightly underwound compared to many modern single coils, which helps keep the top end open and the overall response airy and articulate. This gives you plenty of chime and definition for clean chords and intricate lines, while preventing the sound from becoming harsh or strident when you dig in.

Alnico 2 Warmth and Feel

At the heart of the set are Alnico 2 magnets, chosen for their softer attack and smooth, musical midrange. The result is a more forgiving feel under the pick, with rounded highs and a vocal quality that flatters everything from glassy neck pickup tones to biting bridge leads, all while retaining that unmistakable Strat character.

Shellac Potting for Dynamic Response

Instead of heavy wax potting, these pickups are potted in shellac, which helps control feedback while preserving high frequencies and dynamic range. This construction keeps the tone lively and responsive, so subtle changes in picking strength and guitar volume translate directly into expressive, nuanced sounds.

Custom Shop Build and Vintage Correct Details

Fender Custom Shop construction ensures period correct materials and meticulous attention to detail, from the Formvar coated magnet wire and fibre bobbins to the cloth covered lead wires and aged white covers. The reverse wound, reverse polarity middle pickup also gives you classic hum cancelling in positions 2 and 4, without compromising that iconic Strat quack.

• Alnico 2 Magnets - Alnico 2 magnets provide a warm, rounded attack with a smooth, rich midrange, giving your Strat a sweeter, more vintage leaning voice that still cuts through a mix without sounding brittle.
• Formvar Coated Magnet Wire - The use of Formvar coated magnet wire contributes to a brighter overall tone with enhanced high frequency response, helping chords shimmer and single notes sing with classic Fender clarity.
• Reverse Wound Middle Pickup - The middle pickup is reverse wound and reverse polarity, so positions 2 and 4 on a standard Strat switch offer hum cancelling operation, reducing noise while preserving the signature in between quack.
• Shellac Potted, Vintage Style Construction - Shellac potting controls feedback yet keeps the pickups open and dynamic, while period correct cloth wire, fibre bobbins and staggered, bevelled pole pieces ensure authentic feel, balanced string response and true Custom Shop aesthetics.
