Product Description
The Fender Custom Shop brings the very best in guitar playing sound and experience through the hands of their USA-based master builders. This '58 Top Loaded Telecaster in a stunningly authentic Butterscotch captures the essence of the golden era of hand-crafted electric guitars. From the journeyman relic ‘played in’ fit and finish to the iconic twangy sound, the ’58 Tele is a dream instrument based on real vintage heritage, incorporating era-accurate building techniques and specs. Included with the guitar is a quality hard case and certificate of authenticity to acknowledge and celebrate your Custom Shop Tele ownership.
String top-loading capabilities
This Tele has the potential to be strung through the body or simply through the end of the ashtray bridge. What’s the difference? The strings heading through the body creates a tighter, more focused feel, while the top-load adds an elasticity that’s particularly noticeable when picking and bending. This is a guitar with a character of its own – lively, stringy and slinky when set up in the top-loaded configuration.
Twisted Tele and ’51 Nocaster pickups
The ’51 Nocaster possesses a defining Tele sound: twangy, bright and snappy. There’s an abrasive quality when you dig into the strings, and it plays incredibly well with the volume and tone controls in creating dynamics and different sounds.
In the neck position you’ve got a Twisted Tele single-coil, which is much rounder than the bridge pickup, but different to the standard Tele as it has more clarity and openness that you might associate with a Strat style single-coil. It’s an outstanding choice for blues and clean rhythm playing.
Add the ash body into this concoction with the vintage flavoured pickups, and you’ve got an instrument that sounds lively and articulate with plenty of harmonic overtones and attack that suits everything from country and Americana through to soul, blues, indie and funk.
Traditional neck profile and playing feel
Fender’s large “C” neck profile is of a substantial size, feeling chunky and filling the palm without being a real baseball bat. It fits in with the ideals of a traditional feel without having to significantly change the way you play the instrument. This is pertinent when factoring in the slightly more modern and gentle 9.5-inch fretboard radius as opposed to the strictly vintage curve of a 7.25" Tele radius.
The 6105 frets are narrow but tall, and so make for a precise, responsive feel. You don’t have to push your fingers down too hard, which is ideal for nuance in your dynamic playing. Overall, an old-school Fender experience with a little modern playability built in.
