Ernie Ball 5-String Mammoth Slinky Bass Set 55-145

Ernie Ball 5-String Mammoth Slinky Bass strings are built for players who want unapologetically heavy tension, massive low end and rock-solid tuning stability on a 5 string bass. With a beefy 55 to 145 gauge spread and a classic nickel plated steel roundwound construction, this set is ideal for low tunings, aggressive styles and anyone who wants their low B to feel tight, focused and ready to hit hard.

Wound on a hex core for extra rigidity and consistent performance, Mammoth Slinky Bass strings deliver a punchy, articulate tone that still has plenty of warmth and musicality. Whether you are digging in with a pick, thumbing out heavy grooves or playing intricate fingerstyle lines, they respond with clarity and definition, even when you are tuned down and playing at high volume.

The familiar Slinky feel is paired with a heavier gauge set that helps keep your low strings under control, reducing flub and fret buzz when you really lay into them. Nickel plated steel wrap wire strikes a sweet spot between brightness and smoothness, sitting perfectly in a mix without getting harsh or losing presence.

If you are fighting with a loose-feeling low B, or you need your 5 string to stay tight and musical in lower tunings, Ernie Ball 5-String Mammoth Slinky Bass strings give you the extra tension and tonal authority you have been looking for.

Heavy Gauge, Tight Feel

The 55w to 145w gauge range provides a naturally higher tension feel that keeps the low B string firm and controlled under the fingers. This helps reduce unwanted string floppiness, improves note definition and gives you the confidence to dig in hard without the string rattling out of control.

Nickel Plated Steel Punch

Nickel plated steel wrap wire delivers a balanced bass tone with plenty of punch and clarity, while still retaining warmth and musicality. It sits comfortably in a band mix, cutting through enough to be heard without sounding overly bright or brittle.

Roundwound for Clarity and Bite

The roundwound construction gives you the classic Slinky brightness and harmonic detail that works brilliantly for rock, metal, funk and modern pop. Notes speak clearly, with enough edge to define fast lines and complex riffs, yet still smooth enough for more laid-back playing.

Stable Hex Core Construction

A hexagonal steel core helps the wrap wire grip securely, improving tuning stability and consistency across the set. This construction supports the heavier gauges, ensuring a solid, reliable feel that holds up well under aggressive playing and lower tunings.
