Product Description
If you’re into classic SG vibes, it doesn’t get much cooler than this. The Epiphone 1964 SG Standard with Maestro Vibrola is a throwback to one of the most iconic years in SG history. 1964 was a bit of a golden moment for the model (famously wielded by players like George Harrison and Eric Clapton) and everything just seemed to click. The looks, the playability, the feel… this was the SG finding its true identity.
The turning point year
By ’64, Gibson had ironed out some of the quirks from earlier models. Out went the slightly awkward Sideways Vibrato, replaced by the much more reliable Maestro Vibrola. The neck profile also filled out a touch compared to the super-slim earlier versions, giving you a more comfortable grip. It’s also the year the SG fully stepped out from under the Les Paul name and stood proudly on its own two feet.
Built in collaboration with Gibson Custom
Developed alongside Gibson’s Custom Shop division, this Epiphone model is about as close as you’ll get to a true ’64 SG without remortgaging your house. It’s packed with all the right vintage appointments, starting with a one-piece Mahogany neck and long neck tenon for enhanced sustain and stability, paired with a fast-feeling SlimTaper profile and a bound Rosewood fingerboard. The centre-seamed, two-piece Mahogany body features those signature SG bevels too — super comfy whether you’re sitting or standing.
Proper Gibson electronics
You’re getting a pair of USA-made Gibson Custombucker humbuckers loaded with Alnico 3 magnets, wired up the old-school way with CTS pots, Black Beauty paper-in-oil capacitors and Switchcraft switching. In short, it absolutely nails that rich, articulate vintage tone.
Finished to perfection
The vintage gloss finish gives it that slightly played-in, classy vibe straight out of the case, perfectly complemented by nickel hardware and Epiphone Vintage Deluxe “Double Ring” tuners. Speaking of the case, you get a cracking black hardshell with Inspired by Gibson Custom detailing, gold hardware and a lush goldenrod interior.
