Teaching Machines

Teaching Machines serves up inventive analogue audio gear straight out of Wales, built by long-time friends Frank Naughton and Mat Wigley. Though originally English, they’ve spent most of their lives across the border — close enough to count as honorary Welshmen in our book! The pair bring together a shared love of music, electronics and doing things a bit differently, forming the company after years of collaboration and plenty of spirited chats about how great hardware should be made.

Built on experience, driven by curiosity

Frank’s the technical powerhouse: a musician, producer, engineer and sonic tinkerer who runs Cardiff’s Ty Drwg studio. He’s worked with an eclectic roster of artists and toured globally, all while building a seriously deep knowledge of electronics. Mat complements that perfectly, being a seasoned synth player and creative all-rounder with a background spanning photography, design and beyond. Under his DJ Dinnermoney alias, he produces electronic music with a playful edge.

FuzzBillion: 11 controls, billions of tonal combinations!

The FuzzBillion pedal is where Teaching Machines’ approach really shines. Born from Frank’s experiments with multiple guitar pedals and distortion circuits, it uses a clever rotary switch setup to flick between flavours of fuzz on the fly. After (by his own admission) a rather vivid dream about rotary switches, the concept clicked — and the FuzzBillion was born. It’s a hands-on, analogue playground for anyone who loves exploring fuzz pedals and the wilder side of gain!
