Product Description

"Quite aside from carrying the signature of one of the most respected session guitarists in history, these instruments are from the same stable as the Marcus Miller basses, whose sound-per-pound quality has made them something of a phenomenon in the four-string world." - guitar.com

Following up the superb bass collaboration with Marcus Miller, Sire have partnered with jazz fusion legend Larry Carlton to bring you their take on the vintage semi-hollow: the H7. Sire instruments boast high-end specs at tempting prices - and it’s business as usual with the H7, which features a rolled edge ebony fingerboard and Larry Carlton Vintage pickup set.

Construction

Great build quality is crucial to a semi-hollow and the H7 passes with flying colours. It's made using maple back and sides and a cool flamed maple top, which helps produce a classically familiar resonance.

Set in is a comfortable “C” shape mahogany neck, topped with that astounding rolled ebony fretboard. Without a doubt, it makes the guitar feel like it's worth four times the price. Embedded are medium jumbo frets to give the H7 an updated playing feel and they combine well with the flat 12 inch radius.

Hardware on the H7 is of an incredibly high standard. The diecast premium tuners keep the guitar as precise as can be, while at the other end the Tune-O-matic bridge retains accurate intonation.

Sound

Sire had to pull out all the stops to meet the lofty expectations of Mr. 335 himself. The Larry Carlton Vintage humbucker sets delivers incredibly smooth sustain, bucketloads of harmonics and brilliant clarity suited to blues, rock and jazz styles.

"One thing that’s already plenty beefy is the sound of Sire’s humbuckers. The neck unit is full and thumpy, a natural for shiny-shoed jazz, but the other two settings do an impressive job of keeping things full while dialling up the midrange snap.... give the H7 just a teaspoon of overdrive and it reveals itself to be a rich and gutsy solo machine." - guitar.com

Customer Reviews

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Fantastic guitar by any standards, and particularly at this price point. It really does look and feel like a much more expensive instrument."

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "It's just a really great quality guitar at any price, especially rolled binding on the neck which makes it extremely comfortable to play!"

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "The pickups were perfectly balanced, producing a variety of tones and with a modicum of overdrive they really sing. If anybody wants a 335 style guitar without breaking the bank, I thoroughly recommend"

The Larry Carlton H7 is a great guitar for the money plays and sounds wonderful Back in the 80s i sold my 1964 gibson 335 to buy a strat and regretted it always wanted another but the price has sky rocketed out of my price range for a 60s 335 saw some great reviews on sire guitars and decided to perchace a H7 from Andertons its unbelievable for the money build quality playability and sound .great feel to the rounded edge's on the neck the only gripe i had was the frets were really rough almost like wet n dry maybe a one off because haven't heard any reviews stating this so a buff with some wire wool sorted it out The only reason i gave 4 stars because of this but now plays like a dream would highly recommend Sire guitars just a wee polish to the frets wouldn't go a miss 😉

The guitar itself is very impressive given the price. I own / have owned premium guitars from Collings, Gibson, Fender and Eastman. The Sire H7 holds its own against any of these brands and for a fraction of the price. The guitar came setup very well, I adjusted the action a little lower but that is personal preference. The intonation was almost perfect, just the low E string was slightly sharp at the 12 fret - a with a turn of the screw driver - presto - it was perfect. The guitar has excellent sustain and awesome tone. Just what I was looking for. I owned a Collings SoCo Deluxe and this compares quite favourably to it. I could buy five of these guitars for the price of the Collings. I am an enthusiast, not a professional musician. I highly recommend the Sire H7.

I was looking at adding another guitar to my collection for jazzier sounds, I stumbled across this whilst viewing something else (rhymes with smee are yes). The quality of this guitar really surprised me, excellent feel to the neck and body. Frets and neck have been rolled which you wouldn’t expect at this price range. Pick ups sound great and it handles very well overall, are there better guitars? Yes of course, but can you find one at this price range?

I cannot fault this wonderful guitar. It sounds, feels and plays beautifully. I’ve had other mid-priced 335 style guitars in my time, including a sheraton and an Ibanez Artcore. I have to say, for me, this blows away the competition. The neck especially is so comfortable and it didn’t take me long at all to get used to the narrow nut end…and my hands aren’t small. The guitar just sings and the pickups are beautifully balanced. They’re not too hot but have a very sweet top end. I don’t know why it’s mentioned in some reviews about the pickups being too bright - I haven’t found this and this can be easily dialled to suit anyway. The variable tones you can squeeze out of the guitar are excellent and it didn’t take me long to find some lovely bluesy sweet spots with some small dialling of the tones and volume adjustment. The guitar arrived in perfect condition. Once I put a new set of strings on, made a small adjustment at the bridge and spent a little time tuning up and bending the strings it was “in”. The tuning and intonation are super and I can’t put it down. It’s also quite nice to look at (I spent ages just staring at it before playing a note 😂). This guitar is a keeper!
