Jim Dunlop Guitar Products

Arguably the largest manufacturer of guitar picks worldwide, Jim Dunlop’s hugely diverse catalogue of accessories includes essentials like straps, cleaning products and strings.

But the brand are perhaps most notorious for their series of Cry Baby wah pedals; largely considered the industry standard amongst guitar players. Also pioneering the famous Fuzz Face pedal line and recreating the legendary Echoplex delay sound in their compact pedals, Jim Dunlop’s lineup bridges nostalgia with the needs of modern players.

History of Jim Dunlop

Jim Dunlop came to fruition in 1965, and over 50 years later the brand continues to drive the creative ethos of its eponymous founder. With modest beginnings, early successes for the company included the Vibra-Tuner, a clever device that would fit to a guitar and display its tuning accuracy via the vibration of a small reed. This was followed by a cutting-edge capo design, which later developed into what we all know as the 1100 series capo, one of Dunlop’s longest-standing products.

It wasn’t until 1972, however, that Jim Dunlop started to take things more seriously. Initiated by the production of their ground-breaking nylon guitar picks, these plectrums are still in production decades later, setting the trend for subsequent designs. Jim Dunlop’s current guitar pick range is unparalleled, used by millions of players around the world.

Jim Dunlop later acquired effects pedal giant MXR, the manufacturer of many legendary stompboxes. Continuing to push the boundaries of guitar effects, Dunlop also resurrected the Way Huge pedal brand, a boutique company that produced a limited number of highly-coveted pedals in the 90s. Folding before the new millenia, the brand has been restored to its former glory with the backing of Dunlop, mass-producing their popular pedal designs.

The Jim Dunlop Range

Cry Baby Wah Pedals

The Cry Baby is an icon in every sense of the word. According to Dunlop, well over a million of these units have been sold since 1966! With the original GCB95 model still in production, the Cry Baby range today is incredibly vast and varied, with a number of signature models available for artists such as Kirk Hammett (Metallica) and Slash (Guns ‘N’ Roses). Tailored towards their specific tonal needs, some of these models boast EQ controls and even boost circuits.

Fuzz Face Pedals

Popularised by the one and only Jimi Hendrix, the Fuzz Face gives you that unmistakable 60s psychedelic rock sound in a box. With many iterations of this classic unit offered by Jim Dunlop, you can find anything from silicon or germanium transistor-driven models to signature and mini versions too!

Guitar Picks

Jim Dunlop are class-leaders when it comes to guitar picks. Overlooked by some, the importance of a good guitar pick is recognised by the majority of players, and Jim Dunlop’s diverse range accommodates everyone.

Apart from their game-changing nylon plectrums, Jim Dunlop’s most popular picks are formed from Tortex. Available in varying thicknesses for different levels of flexibility, these picks are versatile for many styles and genres.

Another go-to range for many guitarists is the Jazz III line. These picks are well-known for their smaller profile and sharp, sculpted tip. Popular with shredders, Jazz IIIs are available in many different materials, including Ultex, Tortex and the high-end Primetone - a series of premium hand-burnished plectrums.
