Arturia MiniFreak 49 Hybrid Synthesizer

The Arturia MiniFreak 49 is a six-voice polyphonic synthesiser built for spontaneous sound design and expressive performance. Combining two powerful digital sound engines with an analogue filter and VCA per voice, it moves effortlessly from familiar tones to unexpected textures. Its 49-note full-size semi-weighted keybed features velocity and mono aftertouch, while the new XYZ touch matrix puts modulation, preset browsing and performance control directly beneath your fingers.

With more than 30 oscillator modes covering virtual analogue, FM, wavetable, granular, sample-based, and physical modelling synthesis, MiniFreak 49 offers enormous scope for experimentation. Filter FM, voice panning, deep modulation and three independent digital effects slots give you plenty of ways to transform each sound. The 64 step sequencer and performance arpeggiator keep ideas moving, while 256 MB of sample and wavetable memory lets you bring your own material into the instrument. With 350 factory presets, 162 user slots, and compatibility with original MiniFreak presets, this is a versatile Freak designed to reward curiosity.

Spontaneous Sound Design:

MiniFreak 49 is designed to make experimentation feel like playing rather than programming. Its two digital sound engines offer more than 30 oscillator modes spanning virtual analogue, FM, wavetable, granular, sample based and physical modelling synthesis. Engine 2 can process Engine 1, while Audio In can also be routed through the voice architecture for even more creative possibilities.

Every voice passes through its own polyphonic analogue state variable filter and VCA, with audio rate Filter FM available from either engine. Add two LFOs, cycling envelopes, voice panning and three digital effects slots, and even simple patches can quickly develop into complex, evolving sounds. With 350 factory presets and compatibility with original MiniFreak presets, there is plenty to explore straight away.

Touch, Press and Transform:

The XYZ touch matrix gives MiniFreak 49 a uniquely tactile approach to sound shaping. A single touch can move multiple parameters simultaneously, while pressure adds another dimension of control. The matrix also provides visual feedback, showing modulation assignments and helping you understand how each sound is being transformed.

Freak Control adds dedicated layouts for Macros, Gate and Spice, Time Stretch, Filter Freak, Timbre Shape and FX Mix. The encoder lets you move between layouts, while direct colour-coded modulation assignment keeps complex routing accessible. You can also draw custom LFO shapes directly onto the matrix, turning movement and touch into an integral part of the synthesis process.

Performance and Connectivity:

MiniFreak 49 gives you plenty of control for both studio production and live performance. Its 49-note full-size semi-weighted keybed provides velocity and mono aftertouch, while aluminium pitch and modulation wheels offer familiar hands-on expression. The 64-step sequencer features four lanes of automated modulation, and the arpeggiator includes octave jumps, ratchets, repeats and Spice & Dice controls.

When it is time to integrate MiniFreak 49 with the rest of your setup, MIDI In, Out and Thru, USB-C, stereo outputs, Audio In, sustain and clock connections provide flexible connectivity.
