Product Description

You'll love this if you're a musician or producer looking to upgrade to a low cost multi pattern microphone. Some microphones are made to be perfect at one job and others are designed to be more versatile. The P420 sits in the second camp with 3 different polar patterns available at the flick of a switch.

Voiced to have a relatively flat response, apart from a steep cut bellow 50Hz and a small boost between 2000Hz 12000Hz. This microphone works great in a wide range of situations. From vocals to ensembles, close or room miking this microphone can do it all without losing out on quality.

The Power Of Three

You can completely change how the microphone picks up sound with the three different polar patterns. Different patterns work better in certain situations:

  • Cardioid: This pattern only picks up sound from the front and slightly to the side of the microphone. Sounds great for vocals, guitars and any time you want to pick up just the instrument with no room noise.
  • Omni: In omni mode you will pick up sound all the way around the microphone The high range is still mainly picked up by the front side but you get a lot more room sound.
  • Figure of 8: In this mode you pick up the front and back of the microphone with none of the sides. This is mainly going to be used in conjunction with another figure of 8 mic in a stereo set up.

Between those three modes you can record nearly any instrument in any way you want.

It Is The Little Things

AKG haven't forgot that the little things matter. So they have thrown in a high quality shock mount to keep your sound clear and a metal carrying case so you can easily travel with your microphone.

Here's what AKG say about the P420 Microphone:

The P420 is a multi-pattern large diaphragm true condenser microphone for demanding project studio recording applications. Offering high sensitivity and 155dB maximum SPL, the P420 delivers a warm, transparent sound quality perfectly suited for ensemble recording, grand piano, woodwind and brass instruments, as well as drums and percussion. With three selectable polar patterns cardioid, omnidirectional or figure 8 it is an ideal tool for stereo miking techniques and ambient recording.
