Product Description
Please Note: The TX-6 Field Mixer pictured is not included with the OP-1 Field.
The Teenage Engineering OP-1 Field builds upon the legacy of the original OP-1, first released in 2011, which quickly became a defining instrument for producers, sound designers and experimental artists. Over a decade of refinement, firmware updates and engineering innovation have culminated in this reimagined portable synthesiser, designed to deliver a more powerful, flexible and refined creative experience. Retaining its iconic compact form, the OP-1 Field introduces a slimmer aluminium chassis, a reinforced glass high resolution display with adjustable brightness, and a fully refreshed user interface for improved workflow and clarity. Under the surface, it offers a significant leap forward in sonic capability, including 32 bit audio across the entire signal chain, stereo processing throughout, expanded onboard memory, and increased sample storage of over 160 minutes. New synth engines such as Dimension, alongside the Mother reverb effect, broaden the sonic palette considerably. Enhanced drum and synth samplers, improved envelope control and expanded preset libraries further extend creative possibilities. Connectivity has also been modernised with Bluetooth MIDI, USB audio and MIDI support, FM transmission and reception, and improved integration with other Teenage Engineering Field products. Combined with an upgraded battery life of up to 24 hours, the OP-1 Field is designed for uninterrupted creation in any environment, from studio to field recording.
Features
- Refined Field Construction - Slim aluminium body with reinforced glass display and redesigned interface for improved durability, clarity and portable creative performance.
- Advanced Stereo Sound Engine - 32 bit audio, expanded stereo synthesis and sampling engines, plus new Dimension synth and Mother reverb for deeper sound design.
- Expanded Connectivity and Workflow - MIDI, USB audio integration, FM transmission and enhanced firmware features including Tape Undo and improved MIDI control.
Redesigned Portable Instrument Experience:
The OP-1 Field introduces a carefully refined physical design that enhances portability while maintaining the iconic identity of its predecessor. The new slim aluminium chassis reduces weight and improves durability, making it more suitable for travel and field recording environments. A reinforced glass high resolution display sits flush within the body, offering improved visibility and adjustable brightness for varied lighting conditions. The floating keyboard remains central to its tactile workflow, complemented by an updated encoder system and improved build precision. The redesigned interface offers a clearer visual structure, supporting faster navigation and more intuitive interaction with sound engines, sequencing tools and tape functions. Every physical and visual element has been reconsidered to support a more fluid creative process, ensuring that ideas can be captured quickly without technical interruption. This combination of robust construction and refined usability makes the OP-1 Field a highly portable yet professional creative instrument.
Expanded Sound Design and Sampling Capabilities:
The OP-1 Field significantly extends the sonic possibilities of the original platform through a wide range of new engines, effects and processing improvements. A 32 bit signal path delivers higher resolution audio throughout, ensuring greater clarity and dynamic range. Stereo processing is applied across synth engines, drum samplers and tape tracks, creating a wider and more immersive sound stage. New synthesis tools such as the Dimension engine introduce complex spatial textures, while the Mother reverb adds depth and character to mixes. The enhanced stereo sampling engine supports dual layer recording, expanded editing precision and over 160 minutes of sample storage. Additional improvements include refined drum envelope control, sample stacking and expanded preset libraries. Combined with upgraded tape workflows and new recording formats, the OP-1 Field offers a deeply flexible environment for experimental sound design, composition and live performance.
Connectivity, Control and Modern Workflow Integration:
The OP-1 Field introduces a comprehensive upgrade to connectivity and system integration, designed to support modern hybrid production workflows. Bluetooth MIDI enables wireless control and synchronisation with compatible devices, while USB audio and MIDI connectivity ensures seamless integration with computers and external hardware. FM transmission and reception expand performance possibilities, allowing audio to be shared across compatible Field devices and systems. Firmware enhancements include Tape Undo, transforming the traditional destructive tape workflow into a non destructive environment that encourages experimentation and iteration. Expanded MIDI implementation provides near complete parameter control from external devices, alongside improved sync stability and a dedicated MIDI monitor for precise system feedback. Enhanced battery life of up to 24 hours supports extended mobile use, while improved internal antennas and signal handling ensure reliable wireless performance. Together, these features create a highly adaptable instrument suited to both studio production and field based creativity.
